I guess if this is still mainly a hippie site, misanthropy will be somewhat underrepresented here... but I definitely consider myself a misanthrope and see the nature of the human race as the base of all current problems on Earth. Mankind is a treacherous, greedy, selfish species with little to no concern for its fellow inhabitants of this planet, and is the only animal with a natural inclination towards emotions as hatred, vengeance and bloodlust. Surely I can't be the only one on a site as big and diverse as this one?
Probably not the only one. I see humanity has on one level a dual-nature. We are capable of cold blooded killing as much as we are selfless compassion.
You are not alone. I have more respect for dogs. People seem utterly confused as to whether they're uncivilized animals or a new, civilized species. They can't seem to see that true happiness might not lie in immediate self-gratification. Consequently they create a second-rate world of trash rather the glorious civilization they are (or are they?) capable of. The rest of us suffer and waste our lives compensating for Joe Q. Public's greed and general emotional immaturity.
then why does my mom's dog want to kill every animal it ever comes across? i don't necessarily see vengeance in it, but hatred and bloodlust come to mind every time a groundhog, rabbit, squirell or raccoon passes by and get shaken to death
here's the kicker. humans made dogs. or at least we screwed around with wolf genes enough (who doesn't like to play god) to basically craft our own species. also, one theory in evolutionary biology (with some actual leg-work testing done to more or less confirm their hypothesis) is that dogs evolved around the same time humans became dominantly sedentary creatures. when we did that we made garbage dumps. wolves would feed on the left overs. when a human would approach (with valuable food), the wolves that were less likely to run away were dramatically favored over the wolves that didn't. it's possible that the first proto-dogs evolved within a human generation. so, on one hand you hate humans, but enjoy their baggage... and all in all, i think we did something right. i'm guessing that your dog is one of many breeds that were designed to kill vermin.
but dogs or their wolf-dog ancestors, made humans too. some say coyote made humans. i don't know that or not. but i do know wolves taught humans how to make villages. showed people that more then one kinship can live togather and take care of each other. people forget this, how they began to become what they now think is better then everything else. =^^= .../\... (and breeds don't have intentions, individuals do. reguardless of breed or species) =^^= .../\...
terriers are good ratters. and can be pretty damned smart. sometimes they're crazy though... neways, the thing i like about dogs isn't that they're peaceful (which they are most of the time), but that they don't conceal their intentions. if a dog is pissed, it will look pissed, if it's happy it'll look happy, if it's scared it'll look scared. it's not like humans who have to conceal their intentions from eachother for politeness sake.
