I take zinc daily for my skin, but i'm about to start on St. Johns Wort for mild depression. Can I take these two together? And how much st. John Wort should I take, i'm taking it as a preventative cos I recognise that i'm going towards being depressed agoin and I sure as hell don't want to be back at the self harming stage.

No I don't think those interact at all. Zinc is pretty harmless if it's a good natural form of it.

"Zinc lowers body odor, helps protect the teeth, helps to eliminate bad breath, restores enzyme function in the skin, strongly assists the immune system, protects the nervous system and much more. Zinc is one of the most important trace minerals and has a tremendous history of safe use dating back to the Civil War and before. All food in the US has been deficient in zinc since the 1950s. Zinc is antagonistic to copper and should done separately from copper (preferably on the other side of the day)."

What kind of Zinc do you take??? The kind I linked to above is probably the best, angstrom minerals are very small and a lot more abosrbable for the body..plus it is a liquid so that makes it even more absorbable.

You have to take St. John's Wort everyday for it to have an effect, 3 times a day for a month at least, and be careful of sun exposure...it's like prozac, it takes a month to saturate your system and it's an SSRI...

It's kind of a short term solution, and really your better off rebuilding a healthy nervous system and good amounts of neurotransmitters through certain amino acid supplements(5-htp,l-trytophan,etc..), omega 3 fatty acids(hemp or flax oil and/or seeds from health food stores, or krill oil, or a pharmaceutical grade mercury and hexane free fish oil)

Check out Gabriel Cousins "Depression Free For Life" book for more on amino acids and all of that...

I would also really consider getting a package of Raw Chocolate to try from Shazzie's Detox Your World Store in the UK - and maybe even the Naked Chocolate book that goes along with it - http://www.detoxyourworld.com/acatalog/cacao_beans_skin.html

Also, she has a lot of high quality herbal products, organic food and superfoods that will make you fill a lot more energetic, healthy and happy =)
