I take Prozac for depression. It pretty much makes me feel like a zombie and it sucks, but when i dont take it, even when i ween myself off of it, i feel like complete and utter shit. Any suggestions?
I think I know what you mean about the zombie-esque feeling. Lexapro gave me that feeling. I've been on Prozac, too, and all was great until it really started to kick in, like a month after I started taking it.... then it felt like I was truly going crazy. I hardly slept for about a week, I wrote constantly (really bizarre shit that makes no sense to me now), and I just didn't feel like myself anymore. You should definitely try another one if it makes you feel that way. After Prozac, I was prescribed Effexor, which does nothing for me. It seems to work for other people I know, though.
SSRI's are incredibly dangerous imo... They create extremely violent behavior in the long run and increase suicide rates, and the Columbine shootings were commitedd by people on anti-depressants..And the VA Tech shooting were too, and probably more.. My friend even thinks these drugs lower you "spiritual immune system", which I found very interesting... SSRI's work on keeping what little seratonin a depressed person has left in the brain...but it doesn't help create more seratonin or really heal the condition. It's a patch over something that needs to be fixed and replenished. Amino acids like trytophan ( found in high concentrations in raw cacao ) help build more seratonin in the brain, which is what people really need. Raw Cacao ( http://www.sunfood.com/cgi-bin/order/index.cgi?id=144883264811&d=single&item_id=0878&m=home ) is a MAO inhibitor too so it works on both sides, keeping seratonin in the brain and making more to reverse deficiencies. Omega 3 fatty acids ( in hemp, krill, & flax oil ) also help produce more healthy happy neurotransmitters... so does maca root powder ( http://www.sunfood.com ) . There's so many natural things you can do for these kinds of condition that are actually safe in the long run, that I really really don't see an anti-depressant as being necessary for someone who is still in relatively good condition... Supplemental amino acids can work wonders for these kinds of conditions too, I used to deal with a lot of anxiety and I know for sure that a real healthy lifestyle can really make a person grounded and able to handle stress. Gaba, Trytophan, 5-HTP, and all these great things available in health food stores are a lot more safe and sustainable in the long run. Gabriel Cousins has a good book on this called "Depression Free For Life" *Note - I am not a doctor and I can't prescribe anything.
Thank you very much Avocado. I appreciate it a lot. so you think if i use these natural antidepressants i wont have to take the pill anymore?
Yeah, if you start taking all the things I mentioned and looking into them and living healthier, you will definatley notice you feel much better and clearer and sharper in your day to day life. You can get that Depression Free For Life book on www.sunfood.com , I recommend looking into a lot of stuff that they carry.
