There's no reason to think she was a whore, that's just another erroneous christian tradition. There's also no reason to think sh was JC's wife, that's just modern sensationalistic fiction. The only thing we know for sure is that they left the Gospel of Mary Magdelian out of the Bible because they couldn't find a copy with the centerfold intact.
what would be your options then? I'm reading a book on her. thats why I'm curious. and her gospel seems beautiful. apparently she was a preistess favored above the others for her gifts of intution. She annointed Jesus at his death when supposively only women, or men, knowledgable deeply in spiritual matters and herbs could do so. She was the last to talk to him. It just seems like the church has been covering "something" up.
Your poll is rigged, since there is no evidence she was either. You need a "neither of the above" category.
pfff dont know, i mean nobody knows and nobody can be totaly sure! We dont even know for sure if Jesus existed anyway, so who the hell cares about someone who lived such a long time ago and there are only fictional stories about him... Jesus is way to idealised by the christians
Some people think that the Knights Templar and subsequently The Masonic Order have evidence that the supposed "Christ" was in fact a woman, supposedly supported by such artistic works as Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" which depicts Mary Magdalene's throat being symbolically severed by the hand of an apostle, suggesting her forthcoming execution (crucifixion??). In the painting there is a distinct vee shaped gap behind the supposed "Jesus" and Magdalene, perhaps symbolically representing a huge rift between fact and fiction, while the cloumn in the background exactly between them represents the church which was built upon the myth. Given the heavily patriarchal tendencies of Palestine and indeed the world of the time, perhaps the supposed Christ was indeed a woman, and that offended the cultural paradigm to the extent that she was killed, and such gender-based "offense" was mimicked by the Roman Catholic Church throughout history. Thereafter the Catholic Church may have partly realised their mistake and deified Mary ~ "mother of christ" ~ thus explaining the christ/mary synonimity.
sorry I haven't been on here for a week or two but this is the kind of post I was looking for, intelligent and unconventional, even though it didn't tell me much new, except the christ could of been woman!! it would explain alot I saw a book in a drawer today, called the Brother of Christ, something about lost testaments, like Mary's. I want to read it. I'm definitely interested in this kind of thing. to bad they can't give me a degree on it spirituality I mean...
no shit. everything i like, there's no recognition for, unless I get famous off it. I explore these ideas for me. It's my life's passion. And according to past life readings, it's been my passion for most of my lives (yes I believe in reincarnation, though I will not say it's truth b/c we as humans cannot necessarily see truth in all it's wonder, or perhaps at all). But I was supposively a seer in the times of jesus christ, a priest/preistess/nun, and a deeply spiritual native american at least a few times... so I seem to be on a spiritual quest for answers, and thats what brings me here. To bad I haven't gottan much insight here... I enjoy it when I do. I would like to know more about the theory of Christ as a woman, since I left the church for gender inequalities and the negativity surrounding women. I will not worship a god that sees me less than men.
If Yehoshua Bar Joseph and Mary Magdalene were not merely characters in a fictional work of some ancient writer, I have concluded that the Bible and many other sources of information on them suggest they were wed, and likely had kids. First point: Jesus praised marriage as critical for people to join into. If so, why not him? He seems a walk the walk kind of teacher to me, not a talk the talk one. He was a Rabbi, the bible says so many times, and the Rabbis of that time had to be married to become a Rabbi. So, if Jesus wasn't married, and was a single Rabbi, you'd think that would come up somewhere and it doesn't. The bible never says he wasn't married. The Canaa wedding. Mary, Jesus' mom gets more wine when it runs out. In that time, the grooms family was responsible for the food and wine, so it was likely either Jesus or a brother of his who married. If it was not Jesus, why is the bride and grooms identity not mentioned? The marriage of a member of his family would seem to require acknowledgement. Mary Magdalene was first to enter the tomb that morning. Would not the closest person to Jesus do that? There is more but thats all for now. Oh, one last point, the tomb recently claimed to have Jesus' family in it is maybe the first evidence he was a real guy, and who is buried next to him? Someone named Mary...
I saw that show on discovery I think. 2 Mary's I believe they found by him. One for the mother and one for his wife. They got shut done uncovering it though bc of some governmental force, can't recall the name. Perhaps bc they were on to something? Real proof of Jesus's true humanity? and wife? it is interesting...
Mary Magdalene is the Holy Grail. Only she, out of all the apostles understood the deeper meaning of his message. x
why? I mean there is some kind of substantial evidence right? as much as you can get from that era? if not proof... I will never claim to know absolute truth, especially from a time so long ago, but I feel it is my duty to search my spiritually, not just from a chrisitan stand point, but everything known (including all faith based ideas and somewhat proven ones) and my intution. It's one thing to make fun of a religion (that I myself have many problems with) but it's another to add insight into a topic people have sought out their whole lives for to bring better understanding. I'm trying to understand you.
