I started smoking for fun back in high school, and found that it helped with my depression. (I started wanting to die when I was in kindergarten, because I thought it was my fault My parents divorced) I fell at work, and pulled muscles in my back. I fell at the end of senior year at the school on a patch of Ice, (and was blamed for it) and reinjured it. I quit and joined the Navy, and I was doing great untill about 3 months in, when I started having minor breakdowns, and about 4 months in started breaking into tears at the tiniest mishaps. I fell again while swabbing (but noone was around to see it, and that it didnt hurt in the right places so I was lying) I was honorably discharged for "medical" reasons. I came home and had twin boys aa few years later, and then my (technically) firstborn died in his sleep from SIDS.

I was told that you have to have continuous documented proof that you are in pain, or sick since the beginning, and I dont know how to go about getting listed as someone who benefits form use. I live in Denver, so Im not so woried about state/ county gov, but do the feds bust individual people that often?

    Thanks

I can't speak for Colorado's laws, but I know in California it is RIDICULOUSLY easy to get a medical marijuana card. I have a friend who got one because she told the doctor she gets "very bad pms".. I don't know any girl that doesn't.

Another friend of mind has had similiar problems as you, depression/anxiety/etc. Since he had proof that he had been on all sorts of medications and none helped, they gave him a medical card.

The worst that can happen is they say no. Go for it :)

I don't know of any cases where anyone under the age of 18 has gotten a referral. Most of the clinics require you to be at least 18, some even 21.

    well theres an interesting twist...

i've known plenty of kids prescribed methylphenidate, amphetamines of various sorts, morphine, valium, xanax, hydrocodone, oxycodone, and other strongly psychoactive drugs that indeed get you high, even though the high is considered a side effect.

with cannabis it should be the same, if its legal for medical use. if its truly medicine, it shouldnt be less useful or applicable to minors for treating the same conditions as used in adults. they just dont want to "sell drugs to kids" it would seem. it would seem by refusing minors access to medical marijuana they would be recognizing the psychoactivity as the main effect rather than a side effect, and that the medicinal aspects instead are the side effects of getting blazed. they also would be implying that marijuana is somehow more dangerous to minors than drugs such as amphetamines and hydrocodone, and that minors shouldnt use marijuana as medicine.

while i dont support excessive drug use of any kind for anybody (this includes coffee, tobacco, and alcohol), let alone kids, i know that medicines used in adults are almost always available to kids as well if they need them. obviously they wont prescribe viagra to a 15 year old, because "15 year olds shouldnt be having sex" - viagra is a pleasurable recreational drug. not allowing a 15 year old on chemo smoke pot for its medicinal qualities is like saying "15 year olds shouldnt get high" - denying that the medicine they are advocating is not primarily medicine, but primarily a recreational pleasure drug.

this really pisses me off. i would have hoped that any legitimately sick person who would benefit from medical marijuana would have access to it where it was legal. i've long viewed many doctors as simply a different form of drug dealer, but this is rediculous and damaging to the cause of medical marijuana.

in my opinion cannabis should be legal for use by any and all adults who care to use it for whatever reason they choose, so long as they follow normal precautions to use it responsibly (i.e. not driving while stoned out of their gourds, etc.)

and cannabis should not be legal for minors, UNLESS they are prescribed cannabis as a respectable medicine by a doctor.

Hey JMO but if you are having depression still because of an event 20+ years ago you should seek therapy to clear the mental state not hide it in a cloud of smoke. Enjoy life straight especially with your kids.

Unless you are looking for an MM excuse then I sez good luck!

thats the crazy thing, ive been to therapists and tried phamaceuticals, but they were all horrible, and therapy didnt do anything. Im not upaet about my parents divorce anymore, but I have been depressed all my life (or at least for as long as I can remember). Honestly Id rather stop entirely, or just do it occaisonally, but so far nothing else works.
my mental state is weird to begin with, I can feel that Im feeling depressed (if that makes any sense) and even when Achaius died, I think I cried the least, because I accepted it before everyone else (you cant fix dead, after all). Its weird.
probably more than u wanted to know, but still.

oh, and I think in some places minors can get a card, but only with their parents' prior and ongoing knowledge etc

There are currently no "known" cases of anyone under the age of 18 getting a referral from their doctor. What you have to remember is that these doctors ARE NOT prescribing marijuana to their patients, they are simply giving them a referral that says they "may benefit from its use".
Most of the doctors that refer patients don't even keep records of who they refered, just so they cannot be prosecuted themselves. They simply charge the patient with an exam feem pocket the cash and go on with their practice as usual. With this referral, patients are then able to get a medical card which is issued directly from which ever clinic you go to.

Just because you have a card to a clinic in San Jose DOES NOT mean that a clinic run by someone else in San Fransisco will automatically let you in. Sometimes you have to have a specific card from each place, kind of like if you where renting videos from different stores.

Being that clinics that are being run on a very tight ship are being shutdown by Uncle Sam, I can only imagine what would happen if the media got wind of some 14 or 16 year old being told by their doctor that they should use marijuana. The feds would bust them ASAP, the doctor would lose his license and the parents would most likely be thrown into jail for endangering a minor.
