i'm hoping this wedding thread takes off... i'd love to see everyone's wedding photos, and since we're all so creative, i'd love to see pics of what everyone did for their wedding (or is doing if you're getting married soon!) i'd like to start by linking us to Humblebee's pictures: http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3542714 great threads, great location! good luck to you! My wedding is next june (2008). here on long island we spend obscene amounts of bucks for super formal affairs. my parents insisted. i think it's absurd, but what the hell? they're paying, and it'll be fun! sooooo, i found a GREAT hall, right on the beach. (http://www.landsendweddings.com/index.html) our ceremony will be performed outside on the beach by a justice of the peace. also, we are having a DJ, so i started a thread a while back looking for song ideas that aren't crappy dance songs, but danceable anyway: http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3200460#post3200460 i am a graphic designer, so i will be making my own invitations, menus, placecards, etc. i am in desperate need of ideas of what to give as favors. all my friends give those out-of-the-box standard wedding favors, and that's the LAST thing i want! anyway, i've babbled enough here, so...POST! peace. LP
I hope I have pictures soon. I just got officially engaged but we won't plan a wedding til we are financially stable... if that ever happens
I got married sept 3rd, 2006 - I had flower gardens and pretty water springs, and we got married up on a beautiful white pillar stage.
hey i will post pics as soon as i get them i am getting married Friday August thrird and its almost 100% DIY...
we were married july 16, 2005. we had it at a friend's beach cottage property, right on the banks of the potomac river in virginia. i had a hipforms member (may) make my gown, and my husband wore a sarong. the wedding was performed by a close friend and we incorporated many pagan elements such as the handfasting ribbons into it, we also jumped the broom at the end. our rings are silver wheat sheaves. the whole thing probably cost about 1,000 outfits and rings included. pics are in my profile.
I am engaged and don't know when I am getting married. We were going to do it in Jan in Cabo, but now we are thinking a spur of the moment eloping late august or september thing since I am moving there in a couple of weeks. I really just want a simple dress that I can get dyed black afterwards. I like this one. http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod82096301
My dh and I are coming up on our 3rd anniversary, but I can't resist any thread with the word wedding in the title! Melonhead- It can be hard to find favors that aren't boring, or overdone! My dh and I found really cool little bags and filled them with wildflower seeds. I wanted something that would actually make people think of our wedding day, not a matchbook they'll lose in a day or something like that. The flower idea worked for us. People thought it was really cool, and a lot of people actually planted them. So now they have a little section in their garden that reminds them of us. A couple ideas we toyed around with before we settled on the seeds were: a burned cd of our favorite songs, Small photo albums with our engagement photo tucked in the first page, jones sodas with our pic on them (that one was dh's idea). I also found a site that I thought was so cool, but I didn't find it until it was too late. I definitely recommend checking it out though. These are one of the coolest ideas for favors I've ever seen. http://www.greenworldproject.net/wedding5.htm
For "favors" we brought out small Herkimer diamonds that we'd mined in upstate NY. They were a hit, everyone loved them and they brought some really great energy to the wrapping up of the whole thing. We only had about 20 people there, though...
sugarstash, i'd seen that site with the tree favors, and fh (?future husband?) and i were loving the idea, then mom said her friend's kid did it, and it was a pita...the trees came in all brown and wilty and looked terrible. she also said a lot of people left them behind in the parking lot, etc. (i think she just hates the idea, and i said it's not my fault your friend's guests are rude and thoughtless.) so i am going to stick with the idea (if finances allow) and visit some local nurseries and price them out. maybe the whole mail order-ness of it is why they weren't healthy (assuming mom isn't lying). FH says we should try to do fruit trees, which sounds so very cool, but we are in NY, so it's limited to apples, pears, etc. also may be very expensive. we are having 140 people, so that's about 70 favors. i also like your little bags with flower seeds idea......i will keep you posted on that. Hirkimer diamonds, also a great idea, or any stones for that matter...i don't think it will be doable in my case, unless we buy the stones, and i think the whole idea that you guys mined them is half the coolness. Daners.....pics pics pics....and details! thanks for your replies! more ideas and pics please!! peace.
