i think i am a trustifarian, but who cares how much money u have? it doesnt matter how much you make to be a hippie! its all about the ideas and your way of life that make u a hippie. not if u dont have money!
Uhh yeah, leary did it for a while, short peroid of time. it was in a Book about the history of Acid. But it was owsley who thought that first your right. Owsley still does I think. To each their own. Sebleblato and the Lipshapsakol
Posers are posers. You can be a poser with or without money. You can be a hippie with or without money. The idea of a trust fund is kind of frustrating, but I believe that there are many people who inherit money, but are still hard workers and live simply... or use their money wisely, in a way they see as most deserving. The term trustifarian is ridiculous.
I'll admit it - I am a trustafarian, at least to some degree. See, I'm fourteen years old, which doesn't give me much chances at working for my own money, so yes, I do live off the money my parents give me. However, I hold many hippie/freeganism ideas and ideals. Half of the clothes I wear, most of the time, are gotten from the local alternative center, others are bought, but very old - I've had one pair of jeans for 3 years, and other clothes are just as old. I don't spend much on food - that is, I buy cheap stuff, don't buy alcohol, don't smoke - only herb, which is expensive enough here without me spending money on cigarettes. Personally, I think trustafarian is a term used by elitists. What about those hippies who are too young to support themselves?
this is ot, so hijack> yes, Bear is a meat guru, and he's recently undegone treatment for throat cancer. Connected? who is to say? but a life that FAR out of balance will catch up with you. See People for a thread on him and his status, btw. http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=250528 /hijack. I have known loving generous trusties who use the freedom and time that cash purchased (usually as a stipend, yeah, I'm a touch jealous of the freedom from financial worry, but I CHOSE this life) to do good things: build communities in Guatemala, bail folks out of jail, miracle a car repair, work a job that a person needing to make rent would not be able to take because the pay was so bad but the cause was so good, and so on. Some trusties are merely comfortable (again stipends) and soem get and burn lumps. That's a life lesson, and it was theirs to learn this time dancing on the planet. One frend and I were talking about how the poorer segment of the group treated them when they found out about the money he lived on. He said, "Look, I don't take part in the credit system that strangles college students and young adults. I am subverting the system in my own small way." While I only partially agree (he's on the capital side rather than the debt side of the system) I see one less card at 25 percent interest as a good thing. Trusties often help fund eco-activist groups, or other projects that need backing. One trusty is a $5K annual member of the music association I work with, and damn, that pays a bit more than half my salary.
i don't like the way i've been treated by people with money in my life, so i tend to avoid them. i think it's pretty much impossible for them to understand where i'm coming from survival-wise. they can be quite unfeeling, because they just don't get it.
what if you had known someone for may years, and discovered they had this reservoir of money from their family? Would you look at them differently?
