yes it was. Larry and Kerry (crystal mountain) sold theirs, I think, but they had a nice house with lots of sky chairs for seating.
I worked at the NY Renaissance Faire this past summer, hawking a woman's handmade jewelry. It's a lot of fun, but since I worked during the week and then did the faire on the weekends, it took a lot out of me. You definitely meet some great people though
most of the people at the faire work week work as well. It does exhaust you, esp in summer w/o any option of AC aside from the laundromat (still hot, but you have to go) grocery store and the dollar theater.
Yeah, it was really hot...I can only imagine how it is down in the Texas area. I have a friend who works the circuit down there...but I guess you get used to the heat. And yeah, most people do work week jobs. It's kind of amusing, because working the faire, you kind of get sucked into the whole world of the Renaissance, and then when you ask someone what they do aside from that, and they tell you "Oh, I'm a computer programmer" or something to that effect, it kind of shatters the fantasy...haha. It's interesting the different lives people lead.
One of Raven's girlfriends was a chemist off circuit. I was (and still am) a newspaper reporter, I knew midwives, teachers, bartenders, musicians.
I just went to the TN Ren Fest and it was GREAT next weekend (memorial day weekend) is the last weekend, I highly recommend going if you have the time. Great Birds of Prey show and jousting
Ok, fine the next time you are at a store, just call yourself an employee, or if at a show, say you are in the band. My distinction here is valid: workers/ entertainers VS. patrons/ attendees. I wanted to know, because both groups use the word. Any answer would be based on that differentation.
I've been so many times to the TX ren in plantersville...my first time was when I was 15...we camped out on the grounds during the weekend..and everybody was having so much fun...last time we went we were drinking in the car and when we pulled up police were letting you through!!..they let us slide without saying anything but when we were driving away I heard one say "They were drinking"..i just about shit..omg..anyways..tons of fun in tx, it's the 2nd biggest one from what i've heard and I've also been to the one in Hammond, LA...it's small but growing and still fun..I just got a brochure about the TX in the mail today...what a coincidink...lol
I am a longtime playtron at the MN Renaissance festival. Anyone in the area can find me - just ask the pickle boys where the ancient Highland couple is... we'll be there at LEAST twice this year. (I believe we're going for Highland Fest and Fiesta Weekend) love, mom
I work for Ray now (last 3 or 4 years). Thank god he's not supposed to be back till the end of Faire. If his manager, who as far as I'm concerned is my boss, wasn't so cool I would have quit 15 minutes into opening day at Southern Ohio.
