who likes this show i have seen this show a few times and i think they use the "N" word too much who here agrees with me?
Why? They're doing it to characterize one of the kids. But the actual comic strip is way fucking funnier.
I think the show is brilliant. They use the N word to characterize certain characters. It's common for young black youths to use the N word alot, and so do some of the young black characters in the story. I don't have a problem with that. Boondocks is hilarious but also a deep, provocative social statement.
i grew up in a black naborhood(i am the only white dude) so hearing the word nigga' about 5 mill time a day aint no big deal ta me atleast
yea, it bothered me at first, but i got used to it. its a funny show, and some of the eps really make you think, especially the mlk ep (where he didnt die from the gunshot, just put in a coma)
probably the smartest thing on television. and you saying they say "the n word" too much reminds me of a quote from the first episode riley:whats class? huey:it means dont act like niggas grandad:see, thats what im talkin about! we dont use that word in this house! huey: but grandad, you used the word nigga 46 times yesterday, i counted.
I kind of don't feel comfortable about the animation style. To me it's trying a little too hard to be anime. I cringed a lot during the R. Kelly episode, when the mobs were fighting. : ( But it's funny. The kid uses the N-word a lot but he doesn't know that much about things.
great show... i never worry about such things as using the "n word" because first, it's necessary to the point of the show, besides, it's just a certain combination of sounds coming off your tongue, so it can't really be that harmful. honestly, have you ever spent any time with black people? you'd be fucking flipping out because of the way they actually talk, but it's just how they talk and doesn't mean shit (ok it usually means they're fucking stupid, but that's a ghetto issue, not a racial issue, so it's kind of irrelevant to this thread anyway)
I don't really have a problem with it either, it's just that the show doesn't get the appreciation it deserves because some people (some of my friends anyway) think it's either offensive or, like you said, stupid. I just wish they'd look at it beyond that level.
I don't understand the whole, the show is trying too hard to be anime talk. It isn't like the Japanese got the style copyrighted or anything. The use of '******' or 'nigga' may be rude to some, but it shouldn't lead to a whole reason to dislike the show. Being part black, I really don't care about the usage of the word. Even though the show may be considered bad because if you never met a black person and watched the Boondocks, you may have a wrong idea about black people in general and say something that may be rude to the black person in question.
I know, it's just that it seems to be the trend nowadays, and a lot of these "American anime" shows tend to suck. I'm fine with using the style for character designs etc. in Boondocks but not other things (like fight scenes). It just makes it look kinda cheap.
I couldn't agree with you more, to be perfectly honest. However, it's somewhat debatable if fight scenes in "American anime" makes it look cheap. Shows like Kappa Mikey come to mind with this, but I can't really use it as, like South Park, it's just made that way and it's to make fun of anime and some Japanese culture. But shows like Teen Titans and Avatar: The Last Airbender had great fights.
