Whuhooooo okay folks my mate has just bought his own gaff and wants to get a plant together. Soooo I have a few quesitons. He only wants one plant, can you just buy female seeds?? Also he'd be looking for something that wouldn't grow to tall, max of about 1.5 ft (any recommendations on strains??). Irish house prices are shit high so he won't have much money left to spend after buying a gaff so would it possible to be a total cheapo and just use 2 normal lamps with 100W bulbs in them instead of getting any high-power halogen lights?? He can make a small cab for it himself and I was just wondering what would be good material to use, and what would it need to be lined with inside. Anyway any info would be much appreciated. I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions. Also just wondering how badly plants smell when they start to flower.
- 1.5 feet is very small and even if you put them almost directly into flowering they would still get taller than that. - you can get feminised seed but in my opinion it's too expensive if you only want 1 plant....i would recommend buying regular seeds and only germinate 3 or 4 of them, that will probably give you 2 female plants of which you can select the strongest one - normal lamps don't give enough light and too much heat...it won't be any good for growing - flowering plants smell bad...very bad! but 1 small plant wouldn't get the whole street to smell like weed, only his house.
I have used feminised seeds and I wouldn't advise using them as I grew 3 plants out and all had some male flowering on them and produced some immature seeds, plus they are very expensive. Try www.seedsdirect.to they are very reliable, cheap and very discreet with their packaging/posting.. Jon
It would be best for him to get flourecent tubes (heat concern is minimal with flouro) and use it for growing it. vho compact flourecents for sidelights and a couple two foot long high output flourecent. When its time to bud , get reddder spectrum flouros. But yeah femimised seeds would be a waste of money. Lowryder seeds will produce an autoflowring (2 1/2 weeks from germination) plant with a medium to fairly decent potency. they do not get real big. But if he is at all serious tell him to buy an older phototron from e-bay. They are real nice for one small plant. Use a pure indica strain it will be perfect for the "tron"
I agree with Tiedye. Youse the flouros defenitly, and when he initiates flowering pick up the "improved red spectrum" flourous, there generally called "aquarium lights". They add about 20 percent more "red" light than what would normally be found. I like using them for sidelighting during flowering. As far as phototrons go, I seem to hear more negative than positive fedback. They run at about 300 bucks to. I still think 1.5 feet is about 8 inches to small even if you use a purebread indica and tie it down. It seems to me like you should rethink your plan.
Northernlights #5, as well as many other indica dominant strians will finish around 1.5- 2 feet IF you grow it at 12/12 from day one. Growing shoots can be bent back and tied down. This promotes braching and keeps the plant low and squat.
Cheers for the tip on Norther Light geckopelli, I believe it doesn't smell as bad as other strains either. Maybe it's cos I never had any experience with growing any plants before or maybe I'm just stupid but I don't get the tying down thing, what do I tie the shoots to, you don't have any pics of an example??
No pics... But you simply bend the top of the stem down, and tie it to a lower point on the plant. As long as the growing tip is bent below the branches directly below it, you've accomplished tying the plants down.
do u have to tie it down? or is it just fits into the closet or that it dosnt poke out of ur garder? or does tieing it down help growth...ect?
Bending is for one of three reasons,to even up canopy highth for even light distribution, for low ceiling grow areas, and to achieve more tops in flower if done at the correct time!
-Im glad yous guys picked this up. -Even tho Im a tyin FOOL myself Im not to shure if I can offer any practical advice to anyone unless theyr doin all theyr tyin in theyr first 2 - 2.5 weeks of flower. -Im not to shure if anybody elce does it like this but its what I do alla time. - -I flower well rooted one month old from the cut 10 inch clones and I dont need to do any tyin till I getem into the flower room, then I guide them horizontally for about 2 weeks at wich point their almost three times that length and loaded with lats that force into tops about 18 inches tall. -Its the horizontal tyin that forces all the nodes to form into lateral branches that form into multiple colas! -When ya tyem down like this you force alot more nodes that WOULD have just been buds to grow into lats that turn into SWEET COLAS! -Dose anybody elce use a simular tekneek? -I meen with the intence tying,-but only in the flower room?
Two good links from Overgrow, also geckopellis explanation pretty much covers the tying down, the second links is just a fancy explanation with a few pics. http://www.overgrow.com/growfaq/1417 http://www.overgrow.com/growfaq/1269
-Very nice links Spacer. -I really dug the fimmin one, -Crazy composter really jazzes up that plant good!
Lumpy, I've been doing that for years. They call it "super budding" these days. ------- Looks like hurricanes have wiped out the local grow industry. Everybody but the grower is packing up and moving away.
-I love it Geck! -Talk about utilizin space! -Its realy cool to see what happens when these things are done to the plant. -All these differant tekneeks are really interesting to me seein as I never done MANY ofem! -I started out just lettinemflower straight up but I developed this intence 2 week flower room clone tyin tekneek, -I dont mean I developed it or nothin but I mean just for me in my flower room. -After tyenem down for their first 2.5 weeks of flower I just leavem alone for the rest of their flower time(another 4 weeks)! - -We'l have our own web cam soon so we'l be able to post pics of the whole tyin tek in stages! - -Really glad to see ya back on the boards! -Johnny -
Yeah they are cool, not to keen on posting overgrow links here though as I know most people want to try and develope this forum on it's own, not as an overgrow subsidiary.
