Marijuana is relatively bad for you. Smoking anything is relatively bad for you. It is only bad for you in the same way in which cigarettes are bad for (minus the addiction). All this nonsense about brain damage is utter bullshit. Any other questions?
No way, it's nowhere near as bad as cigarettes. I'd say it's good for you. Since noone's ever died from it or got any diseases from it, there's really no "bad side".
You are so ignorant. The tar in weed is four times as much as in tobacco. Plus, it makes you dull (yeah I know Lodui said the same thing, but it's true). You also have a higher chance of schizophrenia. (yes, the latter has been confirmed and is not just another bullshit brain damage story, although I have to say it probably has to run in your family... I'm not sure about that though.) It is addictive. Not physically (if you smoke without tobacco), but mentally. I know it is, because I'm quitting now and I realise how addicted I really was. (Don't worry, I'll be starting again soon, I just want to get my head straight.) People who say that it's good for you are retards. Sure it's wonderful to be stoned and it gives you a certain way of thinking that you might call 'good' (which I do)... but that doesn't make it good for you. In other words, know what you're doing and how much you're doing it. Enjoy your highs, but take a pause every now and then (which I'm doing right now, I must say it feels pretty good once you're over the addiction)
I said it in another thread and I hate repeating myself, but what the hell. Since noone has died from it or contracted a disease from it, that is a completely moot point. It will stop being irrelevent when someone dies from it. Till then, no.
It's good for me. Beats the hell out of the bunch of prescriptions I don't take. And the guy who said it's addictive is full of crap. It may make YOU dull, but I do my best work when high. Smoking grass enhances your essences- if you're inclined to be lazy and stupid, then you'll be even lazier and stupider. But if your thoughtful and creative...
We all like to deny that it's harming your health and that it's addictive but if you ever tried to quit you know that it's a hard thing to do. but the only direct danger is that there's always a chance that it triggers mental problems I like to get high but i'm also very aware that there's no such thing as a good drug!
Its not really that hard to quit, and it is certainly not addictive. Some of my friends have quit because of probation for around 4months now and they are fine.
i like what was said about "enhancing your essences". weed brings out whatever was originally there. it can be good for you if you will it to be, or bad for you if you allow it to be.
Ok, people...just because something doesn't kill you doesn't make it good. That said, I'd say marijuana smoked is slightly on the bad side, since smoke is bad for the lungs. However, the active chemicals in marijuana are non-toxic and possibly beneficial to health. If you include mental health into the equation, it's harder to say. Some people use weed to self-medicate depression or other problems, meaning they aren't getting real help, just masking symptoms and allowing the depression to remain or get worse. Drugs, including weed, can precipitate schizophrenia, but only if you were already predisposed to it. On the flip side, it can be calming, and even enlightening. It can lead to more balanced lives, if we allow it to. It can also be used medicinally, to ease pain (which can be a very negetive force on the mind) so in that sense it improves mental health. If you aren't smoking it, or are vaporizing it, I'd say the physical health problems are zero or very minimal, respectively; although possible mental health issues would remain. More study is needed for all this, of course. Still, in the end I think the benefits outweigh any possible harms, so I end up on the good side. Cheers!
EVERYTHING is mentally addictive... if you take a cup of herbal tea every night to relax before you go to bed, you probably won't be able to sleep when you don't... or when you're used to cornflakes as a breakfast and you enjoy them, you'll be pissed off when you're out of cornflakes and have to eat bread. It's a different kind of addiction than physical addiction. Of course, because weed makes you high it's more mentally addictive. I'm not talking about being dull when you're stoned or high, but when you're sober. I haven't smoked any for almost two weeks now, and the first week I definitely wasn'tfun to be around with, because I was bored as hell and everything annoyed me. The lazy and stupid thing is also nonsense. When you're stoned you'll be more creative, but you won't be able to do any complex mathematics. The enhancing thing about weed has nothing to do with your character or your mind, but the way you experience things... Furthermore, thinking you know me from reading one single post is pretty superficial... Actually I am pretty creative, I'm an actor and a juggler and I've heard a couple of times that I'm one of the most creative persons people know. I don't think you're very thoughtful, because you obviously don't bother thinking about the negative side of weed. But then again, I could be wrong. Also, if I were you, I'd take your prescriptions... I don't know what they're for, but weed is only a medicine for a number of diseases...
Floris, "EVERYTHING is mentally addictive... if you take a cup of herbal tea every night to relax before you go to bed, you probably won't be able to sleep when you don't... or when you're used to cornflakes as a breakfast and you enjoy them, you'll be pissed off when you're out of cornflakes and have to eat bread. It's a different kind of addiction than physical addiction." Yea- life is addictive. So what? You're being obtuse. " Of course, because weed makes you high it's more mentally addictive." I've been toking nearly everyday twice as long as you've been breathing. During relatively frequent hospital stays, I don't toke for days to weeks at a time. And I don't jones for it eithier. You're projecting. "I'm not talking about being dull when you're stoned or high, but when you're sober. I haven't smoked any for almost two weeks now, and the first week I definitely wasn'tfun to be around with, because I was bored as hell and everything annoyed me." That's you're failing. You're projecting again. "The lazy and stupid thing is also nonsense. When you're stoned you'll be more creative, but you won't be able to do any complex mathematics." Yes. I can. Again, don't project your shortcomings on everybody. "The enhancing thing about weed has nothing to do with your character or your mind, but the way you experience things... " What's your point? The person doesn't count? "Furthermore, thinking you know me from reading one single post is pretty superficial... Actually I am pretty creative, I'm an actor and a juggler and I've heard a couple of times that I'm one of the most creative persons people know." Ah, my misguided friend- I know you not, nor do I recognize your name. But re-read the above and tell me whom thinks they know who? You may know what I say- but not what I think. And to be snotty about it- I'm sure you're a big shot among the other kids. How big is your world? "I don't think you're very thoughtful, because you obviously don't bother thinking about the negative side of weed. But then again, I could be wrong." Alas, wrong you are, for I've been studying (and doing everything else possible with Cannabis) since the 70's. " Also, if I were you, I'd take your prescriptions... I don't know what they're for, but weed is only a medicine for a number of diseases..." You'll not mind if I ignore your medical advice, will you Doogie?
The 2002 NSDUH showed that an estimated 40.4% (94.9 million) of Americans age 12 or older had used marijuana or hashish in their lifetime, 11% (25.8 million) had used it in the past year, and 6.2% (14.6 million) had used it in the past month. One-third of the past month users, or 4.8 million persons, reported using marijuana 20 or more days in the past month. NSDUH Also Stated that 15% of those 4.8 million would die due to respiratory faliure or marijuana related incidents by the year 2006. 15%? That is 720,000 deaths In the United States since 1935 there have only been 6 related marijuana deaths All 6 victims suffered from "ischemic heart condition" Case #1 was of a 39-year-old man found dead in front of his television set. Autopsy disclosed widespread coronary artery disease (details not provided), and the presence of both old and new areas of myocardial infarction. The heart was said to be "hypertrophied," but its actual weight was not given. The THC concentration in whole blood was 22 ng/mL. Case #2 was of a 40-year-old man with evidence of "sparse atheromatosis" (no heart weight or other details were provided), and a blood concentration of 4 ng/mL. Case #3 was of a 38-year-old man with a history of prior myocardial infarction, taking metoprolol, doxazosine, and diltiazem with "widespread atheromatosis," an "enlarged heart," and signs of an earlier myocardial infarction (no heart weights or other details were provided). The blood THC concentration was 2 ng/mL. Case #4 was of a 27-year-old man with "wide spread atheromatosis, narrowing of coronary arteries and signs of emphysema." The blood THC was 5 ng/mL and the ethanol level was 0.04 percent. Case #5 was of a 17-year-old male found dead in bed. The heart was said to be "slightly enlarged," but no other details were provided. The blood THC concentration was 3 ng/mL. Case #6 was of a 42-year-old male with atherosclerosis and "narrowing of a coronary artery," and a blood THC of 7 ng/mL. The autopsy diagnosis was " acute coronary event," but no other details were provided. Every year, smoking cigarettes kills more than 276,000 men and 142,000 women. Every year, alcohol kills an estimate 100,000 men and women MARIJUANA THE DEATH DEALER: 6 deaths... period Cigarettes: LEGAL Alcohol: Legal Marijuna: Illegal,Schedule 1 Controlled Substance What Are they thinking? Hey, Jen! I have posted replies to questions about this a couple of times on here before, but I'll post again for a cute girl! hehe. Marijuana is harmful to your lungs when you smoke it, ofcourse. Marijuana smoke has twice the chemicals and nearly twice the tar of cigarette smoke. That's just one of those terrible "fact" things that we as potheads can't spin-doctor or down-play. It's just the truth. However, like others have said, Marijuana can be used in so many different forms that if you're truely worried about your lungs (which you should be), you can find another way to get high. As for Marijuana's neurological effects. Marijuana's active chemical is T.H.C. (yeah, I just insulted your intelligence, I know). T.H.C. freezes in a user's synapses. But, it has been found to break down over a period of 24-72 hours depending on the potency of the particular strain you've smoked. This is why you still feel clouded and absent-minded up to 3 days after smoking. While frozen in the user's synapses, though, the T.H.C. blocks flow and subsequent reception of certain neurotranmission chemicals such as acetylcholine and dopamine. The blockage of these chemicals is the reason for your mood-change when high. This, in another manifestation that doesn't include Marijuana use, is a reason for bipolar depression and the reason why certain medications (for me, Marijuana) alleviate depression. Any neurologist, or even college level neurology student knows that it's not possible for something like Prozac to actually cure your depression. This is why I would rather "mask" my problems with Marijuana than with a much more harmful drug such as Zoloft or Paxil. They're pointless. Although, I'm never depressed and use Marijuana for entirely different reasons, if one is depressed and wants to mask one's problems with a drug rather than facing them and overcoming them, then Marijuana would be a good bet. lol If you use Marijuana too often, though, you can cause permanent neurotransmitter damage. You have to give yourself occassional breaks. In other words, you can't smoke like the spoiled rich kid down the street unless you want to risk permanent damage. Speaking in terms of Marijuana's physical addiction now... Studies done by scientists from Switzerland, Denmark, England, Israel and Burma have shown that the lack of receptors both mutosis and cannabinoid in the ventral tegmental area and the lower nucleus accumbens - the two main parts of the brain's drug reward systems - and because no individual reward system has been found for Marijuana itself, all but proves Marijuana's inability to function as an addictive substance, atleast on a physical level (like said before, anything can be mentally addictive). The reasons why some drugs are addictive while some are not is merely a matter of the areas of reception for that particular drug. Cocaine is recepted a different way than Marijuana, through entirely different receptors. The receptors effected by Cocaine wouldn't be effected in the least by another type of substance. Cocaine, Alcohol and most Opiates all have their own part of the reward system, sometimes considered their own reward system. Anyway, I hope my phrasing wasn't too bad and it was easy to understand what I meant. Beyond all that, you make the choice of whether you would like to continue using Marijuana. By the way, by which means, neurologically, is Marijuana able to be attributed to schizophrenia? I've never heard of that.
it can be good and bad, its good for ppl with eating disorders such as they eat too little (such as me, im a skniny little fuck and tend not to eat much unless im stoned), also its a stress reliever which is good as stress can lead to illnesses such as heart failure ect. but you are smoking it which isnt soo good for you. its up to u to decide whether good sides outweigh the bad sides
Who do you think is experiencing these things, if not the person's mind and character? It (the experience) is interpreted through those things. If I am a creative person, weed will and has enhanced my creativity. If I am into mathematics, weed will and has helped me understand math.
