You might have PMDD. I suffer from it. I started taking all natural stress relief vitamins and all natural anti-fatigue vitamins and the past 2 periods, I haven't had any PMS. However, I get very very bad physical illnesses. Some days, I can't even go to work due to the pain in my lower back and the cramps I get. And apparently, it's due to a cist on my ovary...which I'm hoping to get rid of soon.

I drink "Women's Liberty" tea....by Traditional Medicinals.....a holistic nurse practioner turned me on to it.....I get PMS symptoms the week prior to my period starting (and the first day I'm just sicky and drained and sometimes teary eyed) and this helps alot....I went off my BC for many reasons and this was the main one....my boyfriend begged me to stop....but thats another story....try the tea....it helps....

Why is it "PRE-menstrual syndrome", anyway? I can't think of one woman I know whose symptoms only last until the beginning of her period.

premenstrual dysphoric disorder-it's when you get the same symptoms as bi polar disorder while you have PMS. It's basically PMS times 10.

That's actually what's happening to me right now...My period started yesterday and these last 3 days (including today) I'm everything you've described....I'm trying not to cry all day long (and I don't even have reason to cry!), my back hurts and I don't have will to do anything....
I really really hate this time of month.......:(

Yes, I think it's completely normal...although quite irritating...as if bleeding from the vagina isn't enough, lol.

As for BC lessening the effects...it all depends on what type you have and the hormones that it has in it. Talk to your gyno if you think maybe you should try something that is proven or well-known for controling mood swings.

I get TERRIBLE mood-swings during and before my period. Right now I take the generic brand of ortho tri-cyclen. Many of my friends have tried ortho and felt that it gave them mood swings, so I'm planning on changing mine when I go to the gyno. There is a new brand, YAZ, that is supposedly proven to help with mood swings. Talk to your gyno though and see what he/she suggests.

Hope that helps and just remember, you're not alone.

Also, try meditating and yoga. I'm trying to get into it seriously, and when I do do it I always feel rejuvenated afterwards.

haha that is THE BEST way to describe it...cause that's EXACTLY how I am. This is the time when I wish I could escape from myself because I can't even stand the mess I create. lol.

OMG! I have this same problem right now. For the past two weeks ive been so depressed that i dont know wether to cry or just be angry. And i started my period like 3 days ago and its been going on before my period. So yeah i dont know what to tell you but maybe you'll get better after your period. I hope i do. Try and do fun things that you like and things that make you happy and maybe you'll feel better.
