I noticed the most experienced smokers that I know take hits and blow out the smoke right away cuz they enjoy how white is when it comes out and they can make awesome shapes with it. I mean they breathe it into their lungs for only a second. Are they wasting THC? Does holding your breathe get you way more high or a little more or somewhere in between..? Any thoughts on this would be helpful thanks!
I've heard different stuff about this. Common sense would make you think that if you held the smoke in longer, you'd be allowing your body to absorb more of the THC and thus, get you much higher. But I have read that basically as soon as you bring the smoke into your lungs, your body absorbs all that it is able to in like the first few seconds. If that's true, then the only reason holding your breath makes you feel higher is because you're stopping your brain from getting oxygen. I don't know for certain one way or the other. For me, I notice that if I'm low on weed, I tend to hold each hit for as long as I can - savoring that shit!
Noobs. When i smoke blunts, i get the smoke in my mouth, then open it so smoke comes out a little bit, then just suck that shit back in my lungs good as possible. I hold it in my lungs for about 5 seconds. Noobs. When i smoke bowls i let all the smoke shoot down my lungs, and hold the hit in for about 3 seconds, sometimes longer. HOLD YOUR HITS IN! EDIT: This post was not directed towards Ganja_Goo_Ninja.
EDIT:^^^ We basically posted the exact same thing at the exact same time ~_~ Anymore then 7 seconds is just pointless.
^hahaha i hold my hits in for as long as i feel like. sometimes i don't hold it in long at all, and sometimes i hold it in for up to like 10 seconds and i dunno what you're talking about DjZephy.. enjoying how white the smoke is when it comes back out? does it turn black or something if you hold it in for a long time? haha
Someone posted a while ago that 98% of the THC is absorbed after 3 seconds. Anyone want to find an article that settles this once and for all? Personally, I hold in my hits from joints a little longer because I can control my hits. When I smoke out of my pipe, I might hold the hit for 3 seconds but never any longer.
usualy i hold mine in for around 20 seconds adn i get really high off not very much like a bowl or 2 but i dont know if it has anything to do with 20 seconds or i am jsut wating 13 seconds of air =\ but i do think hold it in for a little bit will help your body absorb it better
I always suck my hit as far into my lungs as I can, hold it in for a long time, and cough it out. I seem to get way high.
i hold it in until I cant anymore, I've smoked multiple times doing this and has got me noticeably higher than not holding it in at all, I try to ghost hit(holding a hit in so long your lungs absorb all the smoke) when im low on weed.
yeah, holding it in always seems to get me high when im running out, and it works pretty damn good too. if you take a hit, and hold it in until you absolutely NEED to exhale, you can get a buzz off one hit. and by the time you have taken 2-3 like that you will be pretty baked. so i would say yes, it does work. i too have heard most THC is absorbed within the first couple seconds, but my own experiences are in direct contradiction to that.
i usually hold it in for an average of 5 sec or so, but alot of the time i just take it in deep then blow it out...
I searched this on google scholar and found an article entitled, "Marijuana smoking: effects of varying puff volume and breathhold duration" published in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics in 1995. Anyway, here is the abstract: Here is a link to the Google Scholar search results for anybody interested in reading the article. I am at work at the moment, and the network I am on has subscriptions to most publishers' websites, so I don't know if this is subscription only or not.
he may be referring to the "mist-like" effect of smoke that happens when the smoke is held in awhile compared to the "cloud-like" smoke that is much thicker and is produced by holding the smoke only in your mouth or only holding the hit for a short time.
