So when I was younger I had braces....and the doc told me that when I was 17ish I would have to have my wisdom teeth pulled since they could see on the xrays that they were already coming in sideways.....well im 24....soon to be 25 and I still have them
    : (

To be honest I have not been to the dentist since like 2000 to have two cavities filled....oh and that was the end of my dental coverage.....

I'm HORRIFIED of dentists and oral surgeons....I get all worked up and pass out.....funny, if you are not me....

Well now I am in unbearable pain....the wisdom teeth have been in constant battle with my other teeth, I'm pretty sure they are infected and they are starting to push my other teeth around and cause pain throughout my mouth....I have been hitting the painkillers (OTC) but I really hate doing that and now they arent even taking the edge off.....

I have no insurance....my job doesnt even offer it and from what I'm reading it seems that sometimes having impacted wisdoms pulled requires (please, please, please!) general anesthisia.....so it is considered medical not dental and requires medical insurance......

It also seems that this can cost well over 1500....a number that I cannot begin to fathom at this time and you usually have to pay for this stuff at them time you get it taken care of......

So, what I want to know is this....what the heck can I do?????

is there a aid in the city you live in that will cover half the cost of the medical care. ??I mean assistance prgm .. Try asking your MP or some other prgms look in your phone book under gov't section. That might help.

1500 is a lot of money
But if you just go to the dentist or oral surgeon to see when/what /where /how time etc and save up maybe a prog will make a deal with you or something if you save a bit of money up.

Drink some soothing fluids as well as frozen ice maybe before you go to sleep .. Try to eat soft food till you get it looked at .

    Tke care

$1500 sounds a bit high. I had one taken out last year for around $300. I always go for novacaine. It works well for me and I can stay awake.

Believe it or not, I barely hard any pain at all afterward. Today's dentists are excellent.

For help, you might call the local Salvation Army or something. If you are near a big city, look around for dental schools. They will often do procedures for free!

i just got mine out and i have no insurance, it cost my dad about $2000. of course, they werent impacted so insurance wouldn't have covered it anyway. but they were still causing me pain, so i'm glad they're gone. they were coming in sideways and pushing on my other teeth. its important that you get them out, the pain will only get worse and maybe cause permanent damage to your mouth. see if perhaps you can pay in installments or something....just get it done as soon as possible.

How much did it suck getting them out? Were you under anesthesia?

I had all 4 of mine taken out, they knocked me out. I was in bed for 2 days afterwards. I got it done on a friday and by monday I was back at school/work. I basically just downed all the pain pills they gave me (percoset demi's, they suck) plus the T3's i had left over from a previous operation (much better, just basically slept the pain off) Its terrible not being able to eat anything for a couple days but once the pain from surgerys gone there is so much relief in your mouth its very worth it.

that totaly sucks. i got mine out while i was awake and it really wasnt that bad at all. it helps to have a cool dentist. he talked to me about my piercings to calm me down and made sure i was comfortable the whole time.
my dental covered it but if id done general anasthetic it would have been like $400 or so. i was fine the next day and able to do whatever. i was a bit swollen and was taking T3s and eating nothing but yoghurt but i felt fine. im glad i did local anasthetic, its so much less sketchy and i wasnt sick afterwards.
$1500 is a shitload of money, but its probably worth it. you might want to start saving as much as possible and have them out when you have enough money. better later than never at all, they can screw up your whole mouth and infection is really not good.

    Novacaine. Good stuff.

Don't be a weenie and take the more expensive route of being knocked out. Its alot harder on your body overall, not to mention what it does to your wallet.

Yeah, I would rather not be totally out....I had three teeth removed when I was younger and they gave me an IV and laughing gas to knock me all the way out...it was a circus, they gave me the gas first and it make me sick to my stomach, then the doc started telling dumb jokes to see if I was ready for the poke in the vein....I ended up reaching over and riping the IV outta my arm cause I was looped on gas....the nurse grabbed my arm and I ended up attempting to bite her finger....what a riot I caused....I finally went out and woke up throwing my guts up and crying my eyes out.....not fun....BUT the last time i had a cavity filled the novocaine helped me little....the sights and sounds and smells flipped me out....im a total weenie when it comes to mouth stuff......bummer.

It's a lot less painful when their pulling them than the pain of a really bad toothache. I've had wisdom teeth and a couple pulled this year and my mouth feels great. With todays dental techniques it's not has painful as you would think.
