i know this has likely been seen before, but i am not sure if college is for me

even though i dont have a solid idea of what i want to do with my life, i know i want to travel and live on the road for a long time, and eventually settle down and by some land to start my own farm/commune.

i have had this dream since i started highschool

but only recently have i been stressing over how i can buy land, and im starting to worry, being force fed that if i dont go to college i will end up in mcdonalds. yes, i know that a college degree is needed to get a "good" job, but in my life, i dont want to have alot of money or nice luxurious items, i just want to live a honest and simple life

if i go to college, i feel like i will be obligated to go into a job i will despise, just to help my parents pay off all the tuition, but if i dont know what i want to do in college, then what is the point, i dont see myself being happy in college, i dont see the opprotunities for learning inside a organized campus

i have considered going into massage therapy for a while, i feel as if it is more flexible and versatile job

but my parents keep suggesting i go to college to get a degree, but i just dont like the gut feeling i get when they say that

i just needed to get that out, any advice is helpful

Whatever you do, at least apply to secondary schools. If you just go to a local community college like I did, keep the credits coming. I amazingly fell into a buisness program. I discovered what I wanted to do, and now I'm in the School of Managment at UMass Amherst.

Exersize your options while you still have them. Good luck, it's a tough road to navigate

Keep in mind that land now a days is basically a luxury. I grew up in an area that used to be all farmlands and huge tracts of land, but now the land is much more expensive than the house you're going to put on it! I don't know how expensive it is in other parts of the country, but I feel as if land prices will only be going up.

You never know- you could love college. College was always in the plans for me. In fact, how most people question whether they will go to college or not is how I question possibly getting a pHD- bachelors and masters degrees have been just a "duh" thing for me. However, I know a lot of people who were pensive upon going to school but found the right one and loved it. Even if you don't think you'll use it, if you have the opportunity to go- go! You never know what you could find. And hell, the hippest jobs I know are nonprofits and you need a degree for most of them.

If you do end up taking a "break" year dude, I just really think you should go to college after.

I have some crazy ass ideas and dreams too, but if you go to college you have all the options to do whatever you want.
And you'll know that what you do decide to do, that it's actually what you want to do because your choosing that lifestyle. Not being forced to live it. Jah Dig?
