There is only one reason why marijuana is illegal and that is because it has NEVER claimed a single human's life. The government makes money when people are in the hospital, jail/court, and even when people die. Alcohol related deaths per year: 105,000 THE GOVERMENT MAKES MONEY ON... The risks to you: Raised blood pressure which increases the risk of Stroke; stomach disorders; depression and emotional disorders; cancers, particularly of the mouth, throat and gullet; hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver; malnutrition; accidents, at home, at work and on the roads; suicide. The risks to your family: Violence, accidents (perhaps influenced by you); less to spend on food; poor role model for children; increased risk of divorce; If you are pregnant you can damage your baby by drinking alcohol. Tobacco related deaths per year: 418,000 THE GOVERMENT MAKES MONEY ON... Heart disease Vascular disease Stroke Several types of cancer, including: Lung Mouth Esophagus Larynx Bladder Pancreas Kidney Chronic lung diseases: Bronchitis Emphysema Asthma Cataracts Macular degeneration Thyroid conditions Hearing loss Erectile dysfunction Dementia Osteoporosis Marijuana related deaths per year: 000,000 ZERO The average funeral costs anywhere between $6,000 - $10,000. I wonder how much money the government actually makes off alcohol and tobacco. If marijuana was legal, then would they lose customers from alcohol or tobacco? Marijuana is the safest ''drug'' in the world. And finally, do they really have to worry about the 'gateway' or 'gateways' of marijuana????? I THINK NOT!!! FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!
This is such an original and eye opening topic, thank you for being the first person to give their opinion one why marijuana is illegal.
Marijuana also cures a lot of those ailments you mentioned. Pot could single handedly bring alcohol, tobacco, and the pharmies down to their knees in a matter of years. The marijuana plant could stab its roots through the black heart of corporate America (I'm visualizing like Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors here, with bad ass roots of glory) and pave the way for a more life sustaining culture for us all. It's no wonder those selfish bastards don't want it legalized. They make their living off of the misery of others. Great thread man, I am with you all the way Jeff!
I def. don't think thats the only reason but it is definetely a reason ive never heard before. Tobacco Companies and alcohol companies def. would lose money, but the gov. would make at least 1 billion dollars each year from taxing marijuana. Theres another thread about this somewhere, but there would def. be a net gain for the gov.
I can't stand when people call it marijuana, which is a spanish word that was used to demonize it by the US government during the Spanish-American war. The reason it was made illegal then was because the Spanish smoked it. Today it is a quagmire of legality. Many people could benefit from it medicinally, but it is so demonized by society, the government, and the media. There are two main problems which the prohibitionists thrive on; one that it is smoked, but it does not have to be smoked, it can be eated, and it can be boiled in milk, which will make it water soluable, or made into a tincture. the second is more difficult; that is that young people like it. Young people like it because it is popular. There are hundreds of plants that will get you high, but very few are illegal, and most that are were illegalized for political, and often racist reasons, good examples are peyote, illegal because Native Americans used it, khat, because Arabic and African peoples use it, and so on. But tioday, its the kids, and the media's hype that capitalizes on anything that might "hurt the children."
Nope, If you remember marijuana is also called weed, because it cant grow it almost anywhere (although could grow into shitty stuff or really good stuff). The goverment has no way of knowing if that shit in your pipe came from their gardens or if you grew it by yourself, therefor it is prolly impossible to regulate it, so they wouldnt get that much tax money unless they really sold great shit and as we all know... goverment funding fails is shit (ever had meals on wheels??).
also the police make more in taxpayer dollars for the everything, so the more people smoke marijuana the more the government says "oh, we need money for the police to fight this" so they jack up taxes
taxing has nothing to do with who grew it, government or otherwise. if its taxed and you have it in your possession, you have better paid tax on it and have proof or the government will take action on you. this is how it used to work for marijuana, and still works today for most everything we buy.
I think you are right Jeff, maybe if we could make marijuana more harmfult to our health we could finally get it legalized!
Why is heroin not legal? Or crack? Or meth? Because they are really bad for you. Alcohol is legal because it causes no threat. It just dumbs you down. Tobacco is legal because the government doesn't care what it does to you they make plenty $$ from it. Now when it comes to Psychedelics and Cannabis. These drugs cause no harm to you. But they do something the government fears the most. These drugs alter you perception of the world in which we live, thinking out side the box, realizing and feeling of the spirituality in our world, loosing yourselfs in the infinite. The beauty of the knowledge would not benefit the society's that the governments want. The world would crumble into a bliss of anarchy. Laws would be there but ever more people would find the true beauty of the mind and become tolerant to the massive power it holds. The world would slow down and the leaders would not have the vast riches and control they once had. The world would be living just to get itself by. The world would be a Shamanic World. This for a start would not be realized by many reading. These people think of cannabis as a way of getting 'Wasted' or 'Stoned to the Bone' this is what the government want you to use the drug for. They fear the purpose of it to open the mind. For this reason the world would take a long time of it being legal for people to find its true purpose as it would be laughed at to think of it as anything special apart from a way to escape from our lives, like alcohol. Think. Open up. Loose yourself in your thought. You will find a world you will never comprehend.
I complety Agree. Like He said, theres been thousands of deaths caused by alcohol.. NONE BY MARIJUANA!
There are many reasons that marijuana is illegal but the most important is the threat it poses to government control. Marijuana use with the correct intent causes an expansion of the consciousness and, with it, a whole new world of freedom opens up. The truth of the matter is, the lives we live are so far removed from what is "natural" that I can't help but laugh at the people who don't smoke and think they are more natural than I. When the system you cling to is so corrupt and loveless, I can see little divinity in the mindless pursuit of materialism and debt. Timothy Leary was right when he said those famous words: turn on, tune in, and drop out. Unfortunately, most people lack the proper mindset to really take advantage of drugs like marijuana and LSD to open up their minds, personalities, and lives. It requires a hunger for truth over comfort, which is the exact opposite of how most appear to want it. Regardless, the legalization of pot would bring more intellectuals in communion with this powerful meditative substance. Truth be told, meditation has less of a chance than pot of being a commonly used tool to self enlightenment in the USA (too much sustained quiet and effort), so we may as well go to pot with our problems. I'll tell you something else, the relationship between the stress reduction caused by pot and the herb's medicinal qualities is not a coincidence. Stress is the enemy, it overloads the neutral system and promotes cancer and almost all other threatening diseases. The government knows this and does its best to keep our country in an optimum level of stress. Not too stressed to function, but stressed enough that we still "need" pharmaceuticals to ward off injuries. Most importantly, too stressed to improve our lot in life. It does this through the media, threat of terrorism, promotion of alcohol, nicotine and caffeine which harm the body and mind, and other tactics. One solution that makes as much sense as any is to merely to smoke pot, chill out, and live an otherwise healthy lifestyle. Relax, do your part to help out, and you'll be just fine. Weed really is the best medicine once you learn to conquer fear and paranoia (which is always there, but weed makes it more obvious to you), because it puts the nervous system in a state where disease is hard pressed to find a foothold, and it does it with minimal (perhaps even no) damage to the physical body. Weed puts us in a situation where we are more aware of the stress facing us at all times, and so we have the option of releasing it. Most of us are more stressed than we think, even in our most relaxed moments. So is weed the answer? Not for everyone, and alone it is not enough because applying the introspective mindset is crucial, but just making marijuana socially acceptable is a big step towards a truly free society. The legalization of pot is more important than even most pot smokers realize.
