After a criminal is punished good enough by having been in prison why must that person be punished further by being required to state they have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to a crime on a job application? You and I know damn well they aint gong to be able to get a job because of such. And doesnt such a requirement need to change by law for a change so the ex con can change away from a life of crime? Where is society's heart at? You make up society! The person would turn to a life of crime more than likely again if they cant get a job, correct? Instead of changing criminals this fucked up ass sick society wants to keep them criminals. That doesn't make any God damn sense (even because somebody else like you yourself might be their next victim. Or is that what you here of society are saying you want like a fool?). The government, you can bet, has the statistics on repeat criminal offenders so they know what's up though they wont budge to change the requirement. What can we the ppl do to change the requirement this concerns? Any ideas? It's bad enough many jobs want us to have transportation before being hired which is before they even think civilized enough to know to pay us so that we maybe can get ouselves transportation to get to and from the particular job.
i wouldnt want a sexual pedo killer guy working to hook cabel up in my house when im alone with him i would want to know that he did something i wouldnt want some guy who poisons ppl, working at a resturant i go to. I DUNNO. maybe i didnt read ur thing right
It really depends on the crime. If they murdered or sexually assaulted someone, you probably don't want that person around ya know? They could be kinda crazy... maybe they should get behavior and mental tests or something after they come out of jail. Jail might also change a person for the worst ya know? Personally though, if someone was convicted for drugs I don't think thats a big deal but thats just me.
Are you a child? Why would you think your cableman was interested. As to resturants, what about those that haven't been convicted yet, but are still working in the industry. How would you protect against that?
In a way I agree with you, if they've done the time, they've paid the penalty, why should they be required to live their lives on the outskirts of society for the remainder of their lives. For the Christians out there...don't you profess that Christ died to forgive our sins? But if a convict is released early on parole, and may still present a risk then yes they should have to be up front about that. And the fact that the current prison system does nothing actually to reform criminals is also an issue, that should be addressed by society. Why is it after all these years, that prisons are only holding tanks or wharehouses?
The saddest thing in the US that ex felons can't vote....why is that? Think about it. OJ can vote, but Martha Stewart can't. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/83/can_martha_stewart_ever_vote_again.html
Maybe you need to change your country's laws. I am a criminal with a record that can vote. In my country everone 18 years or older on election day has the right to vote, no exceptions. Ex-cons and the legally insane were given their rights back about 10 years ago (or so, don't remember the exact year) and all the studies showed that they vote very close to the rest of the general population. But unfortunately, ex-cons still get their rights to certain jobs waived by the government. Though you can still run for , and could get elected to the government. Stange as that might sound to Americans, it is true in Canada.
Wow, I'm finally at 49 posts (50 after this one)!! I guess I'll be able to post in the politics sub forum after 2 + years of coming here.
Well I still can't post in the political section. How many posts do you need before you can post in that section?
The real way to fix the prison problem is to legalize drugs. Most people in prison are there because of drug offences. This would free up a lot of space, so they wouldn't have to let some guy that wants to eat our livers out to make room for a guy caught with a crack rock and has a ten year mandatory sentence.
Well, it's pretty simple. OJ was not convicted of a crime. Martha Steward was convicted of a felony. Therefore OJ can still vote, Martha Stewart cannot.
