Hello everyone, I was jsut thinking about some of those times when you are going to see someone or you have to get somewhere but your dreads stink and you dont have time to wash and dry them, and i found a bottle of perfume oil thats kind of musky that would smell great as dreads, but im not sure on how safe it is to apply it to my head, my plan was to dilute it a little but im still not sure how safe it is, but its Nature's Blendperfume oil (black opium just in case you were wonderin) so any advice would be good , thanks. Ohhh just thought of something, my momma has a bottle of clove oil that she uses to make my soap, would it be possible to dilute that and spray it on my dreads to make a sort of perfume?
I think it would be ok to spray on your dreads as long as you didn't spray it too close because it may irritate your scalp.
yeah, i have this peppermint spray from knotty boy that i spray on my dreads when they are starting to get bad. ha. although, i've been told that even though i haven't washed them in 5 weeks (eeek) that they smell good...just like hair. so that's good. i think if you don't use wax and shit in your hair and don't sweat a lot, then they just don't really smell that bad.
I heard or read somewhere that if you dont wash your hair with shampoo for at least 6 weeks (you just rinse them etc) then you wont have to wash them again, it just stays clean... unless you wash it again, then your scalp adjusts to the shampoo...
yeah, that makes sense. i don't get them dirty, and i don't need to wash them for 2 months. once they are not coming apart when i wash them, i will wash every 2 weeks or week or something.
Havent washed since 15 of june, havent smelled bad once and there always clean and non oily for some reason
i usually wash about once a week. it depends on how much i've been swimming and whether it's been in the pool or in the ocean or in the quarry. i say, wash them as often as you feel it's necessary. if they smell, wash them. i have some perfume oil that sometimes i put on my temples that helps my head to smell fresh, but other than that, i just wash when necessary.
well i was just reading over these posts and something popped into my head. i think i may not being drying them properly, if its not too much trouble could some of you tell me how you dry, i gently pat and then shake all the excess water out then it air dries, maybe thats where im going wrong?
I work in hospitality once a week so my hair (and the rest of me!) seems to absorb the yuccky food smell. If it's real bad I'll wash them but otherwise I have a spray bottle made up of sea salt, water, aloe vera (straight off the plant) and a few drops of perfume oil - works a treat!
i could probably make some of that, need some aloe but i have the rest. and i just thought of something else reading head's (do you mind if i call you that or no?) post, but yeah it wasnt related but it clicked as i was reading, maybe its my water? i have well water but its really really bad and maybe all the junk in the water is keeping some smell or something i dont know but its a possibility right?
Head is fine . . . I mean . . .oh god that sounded bad . . . you know what I mean!!! Yeah def could be the water, especially if it is stagnant, it will def smell. Also if you do not dry them properly they might smell a bit. We are on tank water at home and the water became really rank and smelly but we thought because of the drought the water was just becoming a bit stagnant and 'off' but . . . on closer inspection we found a dead maggotty possum in the tank!!! EEWWWW!!!! hope there's nothing dead in the well!
eww thats the kind of thing that makes me drink bottled water here and only wash with the well water, but i guess i should putting more effort into washing and drying it, but many thanks to all of you.
hey just in case anyone was in the same boat as me i have some results. so heres what ive found we have a water softener in the basement that filters and cleans our water before it comes out of a spout, well today we put the salt in it that it needs to do whatever. well i noticed my water smelled a lot better so i decided to wash my dreads, sooo i get in the shower and soap em up, get out and dry them off very thoroughly and i just smelled them and they smell just like my soap, sooo not sur if its the drying or the water but oh well i smell good and i hope it stays that way
thaanks, woke up and smelled em and they just smell like hair and not like sour clothes, still need to find me a spray bottle and cook something up a little later just for good measures
i usually just whip my head around a while to get rid of excess moisture after towel-drying. i live by the beach too so there's usually a good breeze and hot sun. knottyadam, your dreads are fucking beautiful. i would love it if mine looked that sweet. lucky you
um yeah, just wanted to second that... your dreads are so incredibly gorgeous and you look pretty sexy in your sig pic
