I decided today that I'd like to begin meditating for a little bit each day, even if only for fifteen minutes or so. I've never meditated before but all I did was sit in the lotus position and concentrate on my breathing.

Anyway, about halfway through, my body started feeling really huge. It felt like my torso was stretching from the floor to the ceiling like a totem pole. I felt so large! Has this ever happened to anyone else?

It was very cool, I can't wait to continue meditating.

Thats cool, I forget the name of what that is called, but it was explained to me once. Its like when you calm your mind and you can go to a slightly deeper level :)

Well, don't get too overjoyed just yet. :)

Anytime you sit in a position you're not used to, the bloodflow to certain parts of your body becomes constricted. This can produce a variety of sensations from numbness to outright pain. It'll pass eventually.

Continue your practice, but be on guard about what I said. I suspect you're getting a false positive rather than a spiritual experience.

The main purpose of the lotus position is to keep the spine straight. There are many people who for physical reasons can never master this pose. You can lay flat or even sit in a chair to meditate.

The only real rule is to focus the mind on something, and gently nudge it back into place if it wanders, and it will. Be certain of it.

    Practice makes perfect.

yes, I also have had that kind of feeling many times. I've meditated everyday for around 15 years. I learnt from Dhammakaya meditation... it is the middle way you found!! and only one way to reach the true happiness.. isn't it?

if you want to have that feeling again when you are meditating you will never have it. only if you just still you mind without thinking anything you fill get it, the true very gently happiness.

It's real for everyone no matter what religious you are or none of any.

This site give many FAQs about the feeling of meditation practice

I've felt big, small, short, tall, happy, sad, good, bad, young, old, scared, bold, dizzy, high, confused and chinese.

Meditation for me is never knowing what its going to be like. You could feel this or that, or anything else. Feeling Big is just the beginning
