This is by far one of my favorite remarks by our visitors from humid places. "Well, It's a DRY heat. Not like back home." Here's my favorite answer. It's still 116 degrees F. with a UV alert of 11, and ozone was UP last week. Try living in a 100 degree oven for six hours..... It's fukin HOT!!!
Well, I did live in Misery(Missouri) for a year. I experienced 90 degrees and 90 percent humidity. Even though I hate the heat, I will take the 115 and 5 percent humidity anyday over the previous. I was watching my digital thermometer yesterday, July 4th, and here at Bruce and Bonanza, we made it to 115.3 at 3pm. That is the hottest so far this year, but today is supposed to be even hotter. And yes, my thermometer is set up correctly, with the outside remote located in a place that is always in the shade. 11:13 am today and we are already at 106.1. Now, one thing I was wondering. I have seen our humidity as low as 3 percent. Does anyone know if it is actually possible to have a relative humidity reading of 0 percent, or is that an impossibilty?
I'm pretty sure that's impossible because of the elements in Earth's atmosphere. IE: Hydrogen and Oxygen.(Water, Right???) I heard that at around 3pm yesterday, it was 121 around the Mirage.
holy shit a couple days ago it was sooooooo fuckin hot. I work in quiznos so it was boilin hot out and i was workin by a fuckin oven it sucked
I apologize to you Vegas folks. I started this, and bitched. Now, old Mr. Murphy makes his appearance. Humidity has been pretty high in Greater Las Vegas this past week. Maybe not by the standards of the southern parts of the midwest... But more than we are used to. I'm hoping we get some rain this week. We sure could use it!
I would love!.. and i mean LOVE.... 110F+ with minimal humidity instead of 98F with 90% humidity... humidity slows you down so much.. its not even funny...
I've done my time in Nevada. I spent a July six or seven years ago in Death Vally, in (generally) 125-135* weather. I agree with those above that would prefer that kind of heat, in low humidity, to living in a sauna. I've been EVERYWHERE in the continental US during the summer, and despite the crazy heat, the desert remains one of my favorite places to spend that time. Dunno, it's somehow bearable to me, it's like another world. The weirdest thing is I don't sunburn bad out there either, and I do everywhere else. Of course I still do prefer a more temperate region, for a year-round thing. Been here in TN for a year and a half, and I'm really missing my lovely little rainforest-river-valley in the Pacific Northwest.
Funny you put it that way. 'Done my time'. That's just how I'm feeling about Nevada. But, it is my hometown. OH! BTW gang. It's raining a bit this morning.
I was talking with a few others the past couple of days who live in the Southeast and I told them our humidity was pretty high here, then I had to preface that and say the humidity was in the 30 percent range. I know I could hear the laughter and the sighs in the background of the internet pages. I know the 30 percent range aint bad, as I did live in Misery(Missouri) for a year, but it's not really what we are used to. And for many here in Vegas, including myself, we use swamp(evaporative) coolers to cool our houses, and once the humidity gets over 10 percent, the effeciency of these coolers drops of dramatically. At 30 percent, a swamp cooler will only drop the temperature inside the house by maybe 10 or 15 degrees at best, as opposed to a 30 degree drop or better when humidity is under 10 percent. And I slept late this mornin, and missed the rain. Brother Bob told me it was just a sprinkle. But any rain at all is a big event in Vegas. It still amazes me, even after 28 years of living here, that whenever it rains, most people come outside of their houses just to watch. It is a spectator event here. And I include myself in that. Anyway, I am hoping for some t-boomers today. I want to go outside and get more lightning pics.
Yep. Well, it ain't over yet. It's predicted for many parts of Nevada for the rest of the week. And Zilla? Next time they laugh at 30%, just remind them of the triple digit temps on TOP of that. On the news this morning, the showed us the requisit lightning show from overnight. (Gawd I love that kind of footage.) However that is bad news for the firefighters up north where they are already overworked this year.
Wow. It got bad this last week Last I saw, we had 58% humidity. Probablay explains why the tourists were weird last week.
Today was pretty nice it stayed below 102. You know your a true veganer (sp?) when a nice day is when it is about 100 degrees haha.
That's true. Funny thing is since I first posted, WE got a taste of the other side. Murphy's law in best form.
