What might cause me to feel my pulse in my abdomen? It's sort of lower-abdominal region... but above my reproductive organs, I think. More specifically, right above my belly button. I can feel it really strong, and it's kinda tender and sore. I noticed it a few months ago and I've tried ignoring it... but my husband felt it the other day and he's thoroughly freaked out. It seems especially strong and especially tender when I'm lying down, but that's probably just gravity pushing fat out of the way.

I'm just curious and slightly worried, mostly curious whether anyone else has experienced this. :)

its completely normal. i have one too. i first noticed it about a year ago, i was laying on the couch really stoned with an ashtray on my stomach and i noticed that the ashtray was moving up and down. i held my breath to make sure it wasnt my lungs, and sure enough it was my pulse. at the time i was pretty shocked but now i hardly pay attention to it. i also have a part of my neck that if i lean my head back pulses VERY strongly. i was asleep in that position one time and someone woke me up to tell me because they were so freaked out. but i have no medical conditions or anything and i'm healthy, so i can only assume its normal. dont worry about it.

You have alot of large veins in your abdomen, including where they divide left and right to feed the legs. Anywhere you have larger veins, you're going to get a pulse.

If you have tenderness as you mentioned, you might have a hernia. The stronger pulse could be a result of blood flow being constricted by it.

Many people have hernias and never know about it. If you have any concerns, I'd have a doctor look at it.

    It's an alien.

Just kidding, everyone has that stomach pulse thing. I'm surprised you didn't notice it when you were a little kid. It freaked me out the first time I noticed it too.

Judging from your threads lately, it really seems that you have baby on the mind.

    It's an artery, not a vein. Vein's don't pulsate.

(Sorry, had to be a know-it-all asshole) :)

lol, lace_and_feet! I must admit you are correct about what's been occupying my mind a lot lately! But I swear that's not where I was going with this - that's why I specified above the belly button, I know we're out of reproductive territory. :)

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm thinking, and hoping, that it's all just normal bloodflow then. Maybe it's stronger because I've been having lower back problems lately? I AM a little tender there, but it's one of those "Doc, my elbow hurts when I push it like this" situations. I just won't press there.

My weight is down to about 173. :) That's the least belly I've had in my entire adult life. I may have just never felt my pulse there before because of all that padding.
