I wear sandals when I go to the dentist, but they always feel so uncomfortable- like they're going to fall off, but don't. Very uncomfy to me to say the least. But Down to the real question: ~Have you ever went barefoot in the dentist's chair?~ Please share stories if any*: )
Sort of... Many times I've worn my flip flops into the office then kicked 'em off once I'm in the chair. I have even left the office barefoot, simply picking up my flip flops from the floor as I leave.
I knocked out four of my front teeth when I was about 12, and I spent the next several years in and out of many dentist chairs - for four root canals, about half a dozen crowns while my mouth was still growing, and then finally a bridge once it was safe to do so. So let me tell you, kicking off your sandals before hopping up in the dentist's chair is NOT a problem for most dentists. Like you said, those chairs make wearing sandals uncomfortable or even force you to take them off. And nowadays, dentists are all about trying to put their patients at ease because of how terrifying the experience can be for some people. So it's not a big deal to tell them that either 1.) having your shoes off helps you to relax, or 2.) the dentist chair makes it difficult and uncomfortable because you constantly feel like your sandals are coming off. In fact, where I go, I spend about 90% of the time with a dental assistant who is a nice woman, and she is always asking me if I have been barefoot a lot since I saw her last. She sometimes even talks about going barefoot with her family (she has two sons), so don't afraid to ask next time.
