none of them! but choices and uses of tecnology, thoughtless and ill considered ones, and the consiquences of them, can certainly be blamed on equaly ill considered core cultural values. those of the dominant society primarily. specificly putting trying to impress each other ahead of the kind of world we all have to live in. with or without the most sophisticated tecnologies or even nothing more then flint knives and bear skins. tecnology only makes screwing up simple, quicker and more convenient. but plays no direct roll in the choices that resault in doing so. certainly we would be better off without the automobile, or mass media, or the whole circular illogic of so called economics, but all of these things come FROM the priorities people actualy live by. the ways they are used and even what directions tecnologies have and continue to evolve in. there are many other routes the history of tecnology could have fallowed and still have gotten us as far or even further. it was and remains cultural values and priorities that choose those paths. =^^= .../\...
Uh... OK, apparently I already voted rudeness. I don't remember that - hell, I don't even AGREE with that - but whatever. I don't know about poverty, I mean people have been living in poverty for hundreds of years. Obesity, yes, illiteracy, maybe. But I have to agree with themnax - it's how we use it, not the fact that it's there.
at first i voted for all the above. but after thinking about it, we can not blame technology for our current problems. we have to look at ourselves and the way we raise our children. if we are rude to others, so will our kids. if we eat to much, so will our kids and so on. where are the parents these days. have you ever seen a kid in a store running around screaming and hollering and the parents are totaly ignoring them. i'm not saying that kids should not have fun, but it is the parents responsiable to raise their kids, not technolgy.
One thing that needs to be included in there is mental illness. People are convinced into believing they have something wrong in their mind, and then they become obsessed with taking medication which leads to mental and physical side effects: more mental illness, tremors, obesity (listed in the poll), even certain types of cancer. Some medications have even been known to cause mental retardation. I think also that people are mentally ill because they are convinced at a young age that they should not talk to strangers and yet should be trusting, so they are torn between being naive and being paranoid. This causes mood swings and extreme paranoia, delusions, etc. Anyone agree?
