    Greetings!

I have been bothered a lot lately by a problem, and I thought I'd ask the musicians here.

I play keys (among several other instruments), and right now I am playing in a couple of bands. I have a lot of training and experience on piano, and I get a lot of joy out of playing my electronic pianos. Music is my main hobby, not my day job. But I do get paid to play, so I'm not a complete slacker.

My problem is that I find it nearly impossible to play much on a Synth-action keyboard.

I can do some horns or single-note stuff with synth or wind-type voices, but I just can't seem to play any fancy, piano-type stuff without the hammers to fight against. When I try, I always screw things up.

If I'm playing Organ, I do prefer the "waterfall" type of keyboard and drawbars, and I find hammer action to be a pain for the organ, but a synth keyboard for the organ is almost useless for me.

This is getting to be a bigger pain, because the hammer action boards are all so heavy, and my Hammond is a back breaker. Setting up for a gig wears me out, and I'm tired of hauling several hundred pounds of gear so that I can have several different types of boards. It would be great if I could get a single, lightweight board that I could really PLAY in several styles.

Does anyone else share my experiences? What is your opinion about this, and what are your suggestions?

    Thanks. :)

I love playing synths. I play 4 instruments, and synth is one of my favourite to play.
I have a Korg M1 Music Workstation with an 8 track sequencer, and a Korg X5D Music Synthesizer. The latter is mounted above the former on a dual stand and I often hook them up the computer so the sound comes out of my computer speakers. I can also record and tweak music quickly and easily using sound editing software.

Hunt online then compare prices. It's the only efficient way to do it really.

Ive recently started playing keys, I much prefer the weighted keys, you can more easily get volume variation with them, cheap synths and keyboards just seem too light and bouncey, so yeah I share your problem. Thers not a lot you can do about it though, an old piano will always be my favourite for playing.
You can get weighted keys for keyboards and synths but they are generally more expensive.
