Was anyone at the gathering in the Cherokee National Forest in TN?

I looked at the list of gatherings and I didn't see that location listed but I clearly remember a gathering being here when I was in high school. It was a huge deal with the locals (as you can imagine, lol) and lo and behold, here I am now wanting to join the family. I just wondered if anyone was at that gathering. I think it was back in '93.

 

your talking about the holding camp that had the drive by by rednecks in may?? of 93 just outside big frog wilderness near parksville lake? that was just a holding camp. that year the gathering was split.

but yeah i remember that, we live like 20 miles from there.

 

I live like a mile, if that, from there. I was only 15 that summer and life was a lot different for me then. I had not yet found myself and was mascarading as a fundamentalist Christian, lol. So I looked at the Rainbow People in a different light than I do now (as in, now I feel like they are my people). I just remember there being a lot of fear and confusion and rumors running wild.

I remember rumors of the family going into local gas stations and opening boxes of laundry detergent and washing their hair in the bathrooms. And someone said that one man had a tick on his beard and that he pointed it out to him and the guy said "Well the've got to live too", lol.

I didn't know there was a redneck drive by!

I keep hoping that there will be another gathering in this area someday. I still kicked myself that I missed that one. But my head was too far up my own ass at the time to realize what a wonderful thing I was missing.

 

the drive by made the news. i think only a couple pholks got a lil bird shot.. if yer a mile from there we be neighbors,,minus the national forest tween us. we just on the other side of the cohutta.
