I'm a registered new member, but I've been watching this section of the Hip Forums for about a month, which is how long I have been snorting oxycontin. I dont have a physical dependency. I can stop anytime I want, and I have. But it has made me so incredibly sick. I am constantly vomitting. I havent eatin anything in two days because I cant keep it down. Even when my stomach is totally void my body tries to puke. All this leads to is serious chest pain and I nearly go unconcious it is so violent. This is proboly the worst of my symptoms. Along with the chest pain is very painful abdominal cramps. I have diarrhea, insomnia, and extreme throbbing headaches. I wasnt some super oxy snorter. I usually did about 160mgs over the course of a week. Aint shit compared to you, eh? I'm only 16 though and with my job I was putting nearly all my paychecks into this habit. For the best of me I decided to stop. If any of you have advice on how you handled this, or if this IS even opiate withdrawal, please reply. Thanks.
If you can get some methadone, you could try taking a VERY small amount of it for a few days to take care of the withdrawals. 10 mgs of methadone split into 4 doses, tapering down daily, shopuld help you a lot. Also Clonidine, a blood pressure med helps withdrawals. You would be best off going to a doc and getting something to help you. You are smart to quit! If I could, I would, but I have to take it for pain control...wish there was an alternaitve.
Sorry to hear your circumstances, IamFree. But thank for for the advice. I will have to call my friends and see if they can hook me up with any of the medication you posted above. I cannot go to a doctor. If my parents found out I'd be super fucked. Do you know how long this will last? If its only a few days I can tough it out. But more then that and I'm screwed.
No...I had to get off of it too, but mine was due to financial circumstances, Irregardless of the reason, it was hell! and I was still taking oxycodone! I had the shakes for about 2 weeks. I was doing the same amount as you and in the same way. I got some methadone and it helped. Now my doc has increased my oxy IR, so I am much better. At the time I almost went ahead and quit, but I was in so much physical pain from my spinal problems, I could not function. It is a vicious cycle for me...damned if I do, damned if I don't?? You need to hang with it, even though I know it is very tough....I am proud of you for your wise decison...especially at your age...so smart! I had been doing it for over a year..I jumped from 140 mg of oxycontin and 60 mgs of oxycodone everyday, down to 30 mgs of oxycodone and that was so very hard. I can't imagine going totally cold turkey. THe methadone helped me tremendously.
By the way..don't go getting hooked on the methadone...it is very addicitve too. Only take small doses to help your withdrawal symptoms and taper it off over a 10 day to 2 week period. Good Luck!
IamFree - great advice. To Chromehound - I went through something similar at your age, and have unfortunately gotten back into the narcotic lifestyle, but to echo IamFree, you are making a VERY wise decision to quit now. I unfortunately have an early on-set arthritic pain issue meaning that I now, like IamFree, have no choice but to take oxycodone daily. but back when i quit my real habit when i was 17, i copied the method laid out in Trainspotting. ever seen it? essentially, it involves getting yourself one last dose, getting some valium (any sort of benzodiazaprine will work, xanax, valium, clonazepam..etc prob around 15 mg would be enough), and any sort of anti-diarhetic and locking yourself in your bedroom with your TV and a sick video game for a couple days. as far as i know, that was the only way i could have gone cold turkey like i did and survived it. the valium deals with the craving and pain associated with withdrawls, the imodium ad (type of anti-diarhetic i used) stopped me from spending the whole time on the toilet, and the video game/television gave me something else to concentrate on. but honestly, don't try this if you can get methadone and taper your dose. that is way easier.
Sadly, the only thing I can get is more OC and percs. The way I deal with this is sleep. I'm laying around pretty much doing nothing because all my muscles hurt when I move. Im having pain shoot through my left arm now. That wasnt happening before. My quads, abdominals, and lower back are the muscles that hurt the most. My left arm, from the elbow to my fingertips, is shooting pulses of pain. Im getting worried about food. This is day 3 with no solid food in me. I cannot keep it down to save my life. Last night I smoked some weed and ate a few pop tarts. I fell asleep and rested for a few hours and just now I woke up and puked up so much stomach acid it felt like my throat was melting along with whatever pop tart I had consumed. On a side note, my mom uses this stuff called clorazepate. I think its a benzo but I'm too tired too look it up. And since it doesnt end in "pam" I dont think its very valuable.
if oc and percets are all you can get then use the oc but lower your dosage over a week or so going cold turkey will make you sick
yeah dude thats withdrawal...i dont understand how u got addicted only doing 160mgs a week!??! seriously when i used to be on the OC there was a few times that i would do 160mgs in like a couple hours...lol
***THIS IS READING MATERIAL PURPOSES ONLY. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. IAM BY NO MEANS AS EDUCATED AS A PHYSICIAN*** I took some pharmacology course and can say to "NEVER" go cold turkey with anything with the potential of dependency like opiates, benzodiezapenes, etc. The best thing to do is to not stop taking the drug. Instead, one could slowly minimize daily dosage in order to avoid extreme physical withdrawal symptoms. "Im no doctor" to recommend anyone as to how many mg's to deduct out of your daily dosage and for how long, but one could start taking less and less oxy's for maybe a week or two until you get to a small dosage and afterwards you can go cold turkey. Make sure one replaces any food or liquid ones body throws out since one does want to avoid getting sicker(malnutrition) or dehydration. Also, one should try getting as much sleep as possible. I think one should still go see a physician since ones life and health are worthwhile people. Love, peace, empathy.
Thanks for all your input guys. I am doing much better now. I hadnt been able to reply lately because I was helping a friend with a move. I'm pretty much back at 100%. It was by no means easy going cold turkey. I was sick as fuck. But I think I was able to get through it because I wasnt taking massive amounts of oxycodone. I couldnt sleep at night, but for about 3 days I slept from around 6am-8pm. The sleep is what dulled the pains. IDL your point about malnutrition/dehydration is not one that should go unheard. By day 3 I was very dehydrated. My energy was extremely low because I had not consumed any food in this 3 day time. All I could do was drink small servings of water and juice. I tried smoking marijuana, but that didnt help very much. Kinda made me feel more ill. I will remember all the advice that has been givin for future reference. Thanks again for helping me out!
Tramadol would of worked great for ur situation sense u weren't that addicted/dependent on the OC... Like you should of done a Tramadol tapper then jump ship and ur w/d's would have been A LOT less painfull and u wouldnt have thrown up at all probably..
jahred thats very good advice.....chrome congrats in conquering that....let it always be a lesson to u in the future to be very moderate in any drug consumption.
