Who else can't stand them? In case you don't know, a Wapanese is a person who isn't Japanese who wishes he or she was Japanese. They often put Japanese words in their everyday speech (excluding words like Konichiwa or Sayonara, since even people who don't study Japanese might use them) and worship any person who is Japanese or resembles one. I dislike them because they give people like me a bad name. I study Japanese, but don't use words in conjunction in everyday speech. Of course, the rare 'baka' does come out sometimes. And I don't care what race you are, I won't worship people.
i would assume a wapanese would have to be white, or else they'd be a blapanese or something. and i've seen a couple mentions of them in the forums, but before that i really kind of assumed they were only a stupid joke in "not another teen movie." i've certainly never come across one myself
I always find it so sad when people only listen to J-rock and anime soundtracks, almost as if music can only be good if it's Japanese.
Seriously? Where do you live? I'm moving there! My roommate is Fapanese (filipino who thinks he's japanese). It's so fucking annoying!!! He's 26 and still watches animae and plays video games. And lives with his mother. Hotness...
Not trying to spark a fight, however, you make it seem like playing video games and watching cartoons(anime as otaku call it) is child-like. Considering that the average gamer is 29, that doesn't seem to be the case. I understand that you'll have your views and I'll my mine, yet I can't really let that statment go unchecked.
The common meaning of Wapanese is a white person trying to be Japanese, and is often compared to the word wrigger. But, many people(including myself) think of it as a word that combines Wannabe and Japanese together, since if you have a Jamaican who tries to be Japanese, it won't make much sense. Plus, Fapanese sounds like a 4chan.org Wapanese, due to the pornographic and Japanese content on the site.
i grew up in a small town where even wiggers were pretty violently hated on, but i'm currently in toledo, ohio, not quite a big city but big enough that most cultural trends should be represented. i used to have a roommate that watched anime and played video games nonstop, but that was just because he enjoyed them, not due to thinking he was from japan. (by the way, how does your roommate live with his mother and still be your roommate?) and a jamaican that wants to be japanese is obviously called a jamapanesican!
Theres nothing wrong with watching anime and playing video games at the age of 26. Thats as bad as saying "sorry, you're 40 now you can't be a model. Why should it matter what age you are? My brother also listens to soundtracks, J-Rock and J-Pop and so does my friend (they love anime) but Im lucky - they don't worship it and they both have a pretty darn good taste in music! (i.e similar to mine but i don't really like soundtracks as much) I guess its good that some people take an interest in the culture but i guess its just taking it a bit too far. Oh yeah, and just because some people take it too far doesn't mean its not good - I don't love alot of anime but i have found two of em which i think rock!! Like hell, cracks me up every time ;-) But why do we even have a seperate name for japenese animation - who cares where the makers from isnt it the actual programme that counts? Though granted, to put them in a category with cartoons isn't fair...
I agree especially in the case of J-rock. Just because it's Japanese doesn't mean you have to label it as such... rock is rock, no matter where it's from! Anime is more of a problem indeed, as the style is very different from western animated movies. But because it's not called something like J-cartoons I'm less bothered with it than calling Japanese rock J-rock.
**Warning: Rant Ahead** Ok, sorry, but I grew up in a household where yes, I went through a video game phase, but I grew out of it by 14...And, if you want to get freudian, my father stayed in the basement playing solitaire and minesweeper on his computer my entire childhood, so yeah, I do get a little bitter when people (esp men for some reason) insist on locking themselves in a fantasy world and then only socializing to have conversations with other video game freaks about how cool such-n-such is, and this new version is blah blah blah. I really don't care that the average gamer is 29. To me, that's just a reflection of how sad, sad, sad our society is. Just because everyone else your age is immature doesn't mean it's ok for you to be. Everyone needs time to themselves, but my problem are the people who get into role-playing shit and act like it's reality. I'm a space-case too, I daydream all the time, but I don't start long conversations and discussions with people about the shit I daydream about because I know it's not real! When I have kids, I'm definitely raisng them WITHOUT video games, or animae, or TV. If you want to escape, read a goddamn book. All this fantasy bullshit breeds apathy towards reality, and that's the last thing the world needs.
In that case, I can see why you have issues with games. But it's just as easy to lock yourself in a room and read and never have a conversation outside the books as well. I, however, agree with you about people who spend way too much time in a fake world. However, I, for example don't do that. If anything, I spend more time working my mind or body than the games themselves. I might play video games for the rest of my life, because it's one of many things I enjoy doing. Even though I'm not like some people who play games, it's somewhat insulting to imply that you're a kid if you play games. You know, it's great that you stopped playing games, power to you. I'm saying this because video game addiction is something that truly affects you. (I'm not saying that you were addicted, however) And I do understand the bitterness towards games you have, my younger brother won't eat because of video games. He will play for hours, and when I tell him to stop, he yells at me! Sometimes, I want to stomp the console till it blows up because of it. I grew out of playing too much, and I often hope that he will too. However, in the end this chat exposes a double standard; Reading is for everybody, and video games are for kids and immature adults. One last thing, why do you spell "anime" "animae"? Or is that just how your area spells it? Anime and Television are no different, it's best to not to seperate "anime" and "television" just to please the otaku who would get mad at you.
Simple, otaku whine when anime is considered to be cartoons, despite the fact that anime is a Japanese word meaning "animation". Hence the words sound almost the same. I remember a petition that whated Code Lyoko to not be in the anime section of Amazon.com just because the cartoon was French. I don't see why an American Sonic cartoon should be treated differently from the Japanese Sonic X cartoon.
Whaa? This must be an American phenomenon...ive never met anyone like this But whats wrong with being into Japanese culture? Im not personally, but id like to learn a little of the language. Learning languages is VERY useful. Im sure, whoever these people are, theyre not trying to BE Japanese...theyre just interested id guess
I know how useful learning languages is, I know plenty of Japanese and bits of Spanish. Both I plan to master. However, it wouldn't be a problem, if the people didn't base all their "know-how" on cartoons and video games of Japanese origin. "sugoi" "baka" "hai" and other words are mixed into thier everyday speech, like this; Wapanese: I like Inuyasha, it's so sugoi! Wapanese 2: I want to go to Nihon! The women are so kawaii! Average Man: What? Wapanese: You don't know because you are baka! Baka! sugoi = cool Nihon = Japan kawaii = cute baka = stupid or a/the idiot hai = yes Then, they get ANYTHING from Japan, and think it's so awesome. A good example is pokkii (Pocky). It's a candy stick, akin to cereal straws; except that it isn't hollow. Here's a link to Pocky; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pocky The thing that REALLY gets me annoyed with them is how they defend Japan ALL THE TIME. The Japanese killed more people in World War II than Germany! What makes that fact worse is that most Wapanese don't even know that simple fact. Also, Japan also has racism, although dying down like it is in the US, it's still a issue. Plus the housing is not cheap, some Wapanese want to live there. Wapanese also worship people like Hayao Miyazaki and pay no attention to people like Matt Stone or Mike Judge. That's the problem, ma'am.
WTF?? Who would talk like that?? hell that'd be embarressing... Glad I don't know anyone like that. Also I had pocky form our local market stall things!! It was just some chocolate on a stick... It was ok. What is Otaku? Ans why don't you try and talk to these people or just ignore them? Dont talk to them - then they can't annoy you.
I dont really get your point, or how that relates to being into things like anime, but whatever, just ignore these people if it annoys Personally anyone who "defends countries" and things of that nature becomes an annoyance to me. Saying positive things about lands is fine, but when it gets to arguments about who killed who in wars or whatever, it gets lame. Its a piece of land P.s-I dont know who Mike Judge is. I wikipedia'd it. Ive seen King of the hill and its cool. But its hardly a name known to the world
