I am sure nearer the election we may face another anti-flag burning amendment. As a consumer I find it strange that's it's impossible to find a domestically produced flag for average consumer usage. Wouldn't it make more sense to be inflamed over the fact that they are manufactured overseas, than seek to infringe on individual rights of free speech, by prohibiting us from burning imported crap.
I thought the same thing about the (China made) "Support Our Troops" trunk magnets that were popular shortly after our fruitcake leader went to war. To think of all the revenue gained by the importers of these magnets, which I feel exploit the deaths of thousands of innocent people, really angers me.
very good point gardener...but as usual most americans couldn't care less about the implications that are at hand here...since it doesn't affect them directly....I fly all my stars and stripes upside down...the international acknowledged sign of distress...and we are a country in distress...if more people would do this...maybe the dick-heads in power would take notice....doubtful.....but a nice thought
I flew a flag for a short time directly after 09/11, but when our commander in chief decided to wage war on a country that was already controlled, I took it and the pole down. No more flag waving for me. And certainly not an imported one.
Why don't you guys just burn down the houses of all the soldiers too while you're at it, and then you can kill their kids now wouldn't that be a grand way to protest?!@&!#!#$!>
Very intelligent retort, burning a flag has nothing to do at all with supporting our troops. I believe that America needs a strong military to protect its citizens from aggressive invaders and terrorist organizations. I do not agree with how the military is being used currently. I have never seen any point in our invasion of Iraq. So if I were to burn an American flag in protest of our governments handling of the war and prisoners of war, that is my constitutional right as an American. do not confuse this as being "unpatriotic". by using those freedoms guaranteed to me by the Constitution, I am as patriotic as those who founded this country.
Totally agree. How are these ribbon displaying patriots supporting our troops, are they insuring that they receive the approriate arms or armour, or the best care when they come home injured to Walter Reed or other VAs, do they follow up and protest when the veterans are refused the benefits that were promised them when they signed up, but when they leave active service they are denied. You don't support the troops if you don't look after the interests of the veterans.
Well maybe because we use so much money from China to stay afloat that Chinese made goods shows support for us? JK I am against burning a flag becuase the flag is supposed to represent the country not the goverment. Now if there was a goverment flag I would say "TORCH IT!" I do like the idea of the flag being flown upside down because yes our country is in distress due to the mismanagement of our goverment. I could and would support a group that marched flying the flage upside down, its makes alot of sense. To me burning the flag is an action against your country not the goverment. So if your against your country simple solution is to leave, if your against the goverment destroying your country then thats another thing. I love my country, I hate my goverment!
exactly yank....."I love my country,I hate my government".....and since we are a government of the people...it is time to take our country back and regain control in name of the people and their well-being...there in lays the problem...people have become too complacent and have accepted the attitude...of..."well my one vote won't change shit".....well start showing your dis-taste with the washington bullshit....fly your opinion up-side down....let the clowns start seeing that it's people are pissed
Aside from you're choice to serve this country however misguided it may be, I have no respect for you or others like you. I also find your contempt of dissent to be morally damning. Its no wonder it was so easy to lie to our military and citizens and convince them that going to war in Iraq to spread democracy was the best course. But don't worry too much, hopefully you wont have to be fighting foreign wars of aggression much longer as the more intelligent and Constitutionally minded leaders in the military and everyday life will reign in the out of control shadow government and their dupes & hacks at all levels. The majority of people who burn flags do so out of contempt for the lack of regard our current leaders and military have for the sacredness of life, and their choice to avoid the truths of the matter. Before you indict me, I attempted to serve this country and did so for the five years leading up to my 18th birthday in the Civil Air Patrol conducting air and ground search and rescue, youth education, and community service. I then went into AFROTC with every intention of becoming an officer, but then our leaders made the unwise decision to invade Iraq, a country already ravaged by a careless dictator and sanctions imposed by the US and UK. At which point I made the moral decision to abstain from military service. There were other reasons but I will leave it at that. I pay my taxes and vote, if I want to burn my crappy Chinese textile flag then thats my choice. I guess its more politically expediant to distract from the real issues (i.e...abuses and incomptetence) and pass meaningless and possibly unconsitutional legislation. On a side note, symbolic displays of dissent are getting us nowhere. We need to seek out more solid ways to change the status quo. I know of too many people who like to complain (and might actually be conviced to go to a demonstration) but would not speak up in any other forum like work, school, or otherwise in their communities, or support people (in word, and financially) who are working actively to right the wrongs being perpetrated (economically, socially, environmentally). Thanks weapons of mass distraction. End Rant
I agree, it's time to throw the polictically/socially polite crap to the side and speak our minds. For years myself and my friends clammed up when a waitress approached our table, for fear of perhaps offending her/his patriotic sensiblilities. It's time to throw caution to the winds and speak our minds out in the open. Now before Cheney and company can have us arrested for undermining the security of the rehabilitation of Iraq. We shouldn't even consider how much they have undermined our constitution...or should we...... shouldn't we be mad as hell! http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/07/20070717-3.html With one executive order they have raped our constitution! You voted for the chimp and his handler, are you going to fix it?
