This is *so* easy to make, and it's not loaded with all the junk that Skippy and Jiff and Kraft put in their PB. Plus, it tastes really good. You'll need about 2 cups of roasted, unsalted peanuts (or raw, and roast em yourself) 2-4 Tbsp vegetable, canola, peanut oil.. whatever you like best. 1/2 tsp salt 1 Tbsp sweetener of your choice (vegan sugar, etc) Mix peanuts and about half the oil, and the salt together so everything is good and coated. Transfer this into a blender, and blend til smooth, adding more oil to get the consistency you like, as you need it. (this might take a little bit, and you might have to coax the peanuts toward the blades in the center to get it going, but dont worry too much) Add you sweetener and blend again. *** If you want crunchy, throw a handful of peanuts in after it's all done and blend for a few seconds so they get chopped up some. Keeps this in the fridge and it'll last months. Enjoy!
I fixed it! I musta clicked vegan when I meant to post in vegetarian... thanks for bringin it to my attention!
sounds good! i usually get all natural organic PB... but I'm much rather make my own. ill try it out as soon as i finish the jar i have now, which should be soon. ill let ya know how it goes. do you think i could use maple syrup as a sweetener? if so, how much do you think i should add? my mom has been making me home-made, fresh-fruit jam. i would love to have home-made PB, and home-made jam, with some Home-made bread from my new bread maker. does anyone know a good vegan recipy for an average, thin sliced, soft, sandwhich bread?
i just made the PB.... mmmmm.... very good. i used bulk peanuts in the shell, then de-shelled em. the shells go into the compost, and the nuts in the blender. i also had a few walnuts laying around, so i tossed em in. i used peanut oil, sea salt, and raw sugar. i made it a little more liquidie than i am normally used to, but it just makes it easier to spread. thanks for the recipe.
yay, my dream has come true! i just had my first homemade peanutbutter, homemade jam, and homemade bread sandwhich. yummy!
Agave nectar, maple, or brown rice syrup can be a substitute for honey. I actually prefer peanut butter that isn't sweetened, myself.
haha yeaaaaaaaaaaaah I love your enthusiasm I'm into the whole completely-homemade deal myself... Makes you appreciate a silly old pb&j one hell of a lot more, yeah? P.S. I tried it with maple syrup (1 Tbsp) and it was DAMN fine. Different, but really really good, nonetheless.
this is the only way i do peanut butter and jelly now. Ive experimented alot with the recipe. Ive concluded there is no way to mess peanut butter up.... it always come out great.
I'm a nanny for a 4-year old and this is going to be our project next week. We're makin' peanut butter! Mmm I can't wait.
