I have use of an antique 5-string banjo, it's a kind of family heirloom.

Did you know Jerry Garcia started out on the banjo?

Cool, what make is it? What are you planning to play on it? My parents gave me an amazing 1920s american Ludwig a few years ago for my birthday, it's so sweet.

I got a 4 string so I can play all my Irish mandolin tunes on it, which is cool.

Cool, do you play Irish music? I am an Irish traditional musician - it's the music that's traditional not the musician, and actually lots of the tunes aren't traditional like they used to be. I play fiddle and banjo, do a lot of sessions in London, used to do quite a few gigs too. How long have you been playing mandolin for?

It's a mix of both instruments, commonly called a Banjolele. It's played like a Ukulele (same number of strings and tuning) but has a banjo body for the acoustics (and I think it might have steel strings too).

More about the Banjolele in an effort to distract people from realising how much I actually know about George Formby

Thank you very much for the reply, you have added to my knowledge of music a little bit. My mom and dad love comedy and have a big collection of it and some films are of George Formby who I really think is one of the greatest english film actor-musicians ever
