all i ever hear from the hippys i know is climate change this and global warming that and, ooo the earths resourses! guys! i love you man i do but chill out! worrying all the time just makes people depressed. what happened to joy! the fact the the earths resources are being used....well, thats life. moaning about it changes nothing but your mood from joyfull to angry... im not saying give up on what you believe at all. its wonderfull to have belief in things but find the joy in it...be joyfull in what your doing... life is great, the world is great, people are great there is too much in this world to love than to focus on the crap. not saying that famine or climate change itsself is a good thing but things that people do and people coming together is a great thing. its something worth being joyfull about. lets not moan about what needs to be done or needs to be change but be joyfull in the changes we've made and the friends we've made through it much love to you all my brothers and sisters Elliott xxxxxxxxx
We live in depressing times. I think it's an issue we need to be worried about. If you want to stick your head in the sand and take loads of drugs, whilst moaning about 'peace and love', then you'd be far more suited to the hippie's of the 60s. This is a new generation, with new ideas, so you should really stop living in the past of ignorance like the hippie's of the 60s. Global Warming is an issue where the worrying and pressure for change should NEVER stop until it's achieved. There is no time-out in carbon emissions, nor should there be a time-out in doing something about it.
drugs certainly isnt the answer. neither is moaning. neither is ignorance worrying doesnt change things...action changes things...why not be joyfully about the action...
What's there to be joyful about Global Warming? It's a concern to the world, and a concern that everyone should be worried about. If no one worried about this, then we wouldn't even be taking action against it. Oh, and try telling the Nomad's of Kenya 'not to worry'. I'm sure the on-going droughts and the devastation of their livestock is surely 'nothing to worry about'. Pfft!
Why are you lumping all the 60s hippies into one category? You talk as if we were all getting high and dancing in the park while the world was falling apart around us. Yes there were those who sat around wasted and didn't give a fuck, but there were also those who got involved. We did a lot to end the war in Vietnam and bring about social change like the environmental movement, civil rights and women's rights. It's true that sitting around worrying about the state of the world accomplishes nothing except making you a nervous wreck, but acting like nothing's wrong accomplishes nothing either. Get involved!
To be honest: I don't care, nor is that the point. What happened in the past stays in the past, and we can only look towards the future to change anything. You can list as many things as you want that the Hippies did for us, but they don't really matter anymore if you want to change anything, in my opinion.
Well said newo in pointing out the positive political campaigning which has always been a key part of the counter-culture movement In reality nobody does (or should) limit themselves to an either/or on this question, it's something of a false dichotomy you've presented there Eliott Being concerned about global warming or social injustice or war or a thousand other things and trying to enact positive change to help save or improve people's lives (that's what all these things are really about) doesn't mean you can't also "chill out" and celebrate co-operation and all the other things to which you alluded. And relaxing and getting 'joyful' shouldn't mean that you stop caring about trying to help those for whom joy is not really an option.
Exactly. I realise entirely the preciousness of life (which would be why i fight for it) and the great things in this world worthy of celebration. I have tons of fun. I relax often. That doesnt make any of these serious issues go away though, and as theyre things that affect the entire planet and are advancing rapidly, there is a sense of pressure to change things. We cant afford to sit back and watch it all happen Just because we care, and arent insanely reckless and thoughtless and living a mindless existence, doesnt mean we arent any fun
Eliott, you're very right. People are nto relaxed enough, I try to be relaxed, and for the next two years I'm gonna be studying for my GCSEs (O levels for you older people). So being relaxed is healthy and more enjoyable than just worrying. This thread is the meaning of this emote!
I think we could all do with less moaning. It isn't very helpful and probably wastes a hell of a lot of time. But I think in general I'm the other way around. I think I'd be angrier if I didn't 'worry' so much about the way the planet's being treated! I take (some of my) joy in thinking of how I can help change such problems and doing my best to do so. Personally I see little point in worrying about it at all anymore. You've just gotta do your bit I think. Maybe a couple of other people's if you have the energy and inclination! Also, maybe some folk just can't stop worrying. It's easy to say, hey let's all kick back and party, but a lot of people just wont be in the mood for that. They'd rather worry about a problem...And maybe find a solution
yep im right with you there mate...you definatly cant just kick back and party...if you have a passion for this area of work then thats really great... i think for some people it can be an exscuse for a good ol moan but there are some really genuine people out there that feel that there calling is to make a difference in this area which is grand...its so refreashing to hear that some people are making a difference in a spirit of joy. things get done properly that way...i mean..imagine someone from the uk or us going out to a starving country all depressed and saying to them...ah this world is so rubbish my country just doesnt understand...they'll think man, im starvin and there the ones moaning...i doubt the starving people moan...in fact i bet there the most joyfull people of all
I felt much the same way when I was 19. It's only natural that you don't care about the past since you weren't there. We can do more than look towards the future, we can look to the past for the lessons it has to teach us and for the inspiration it can give us to carry on the good fight. If you need to look elsewhere for your inspiration then good luck to you.
yep, look forward, look backward, look left and right to, and post the best the links to a global warming campaign on this thread! Yep totally agree with the happy hippy!
I know what you mean. It is global warming this, end of the world that. I say that all hippies should chill out to some Psychedelic tunes. Or hug a thousand eye pink squirrel. Wouldn't that be kind of groovy?
A funny thing is happening to me at the minute. I seem to be getting very sick of businesses taking the green road. I rather I'm sick of companies saying they're on the green road. Although I'm sure many of them are doing something. I noticed at the cash machine. Those first few seconds you're there they have those ads on screen. One said, 'How green is your bank?' with a couple of bullet points below on how they themselves were so mint, probably. Didn't catch it. But I did think, urh, you aswell ay? Aye, whatever you say. I should really be over the moon, but I guess I just don't buy it.
