all i did to germinate my seeds was put them in a folded up and wet paper towel and then left them in a dark area for a little less then a week...and then they began to sprout. easy.

I'm not saying for certain, but I would bet that you cooked your poor little seeds. During germination you really don't need much, if any, light. In fact, even after they germinate and start to sprout, you'd be better off getting a few CFLs (bright white, 6000K). They don't get nearly as hot and produce a light spectrum that is key in helping to grow strong roots.

Or, just move your HPS a little further away.

Like my kid learned in the 4th grade. Seeds sprout faster in the dark. Put seed in a wet paper towel, throw it in the cupboard and check back in a couple of days or so...Don't forget about em.

for germing i just use 2 cfl's, if i just leave em' in the dark i tend to over-wait and they stretch a bit so i just play on the safe side and germ em' under a little light.

Putting them in a damp paper towel is foolproof. When you see the taproot come out, then you put it in soil, and introduce to light. Also, HPS is a VERY bad idea for your first time, use it only for flower.

Fluros have a better spectrum than HPS for veg, they will grow more squat and bushy insteady of stretchy, and they will not get burnt as easily.

Since it is your first time, use fish emulsion as a fertilizer. It won't burn the blant (chemical burns) But don't give anything for the first 1-2 weeks.
