At work the other day, we were discussing music legends. There were some people gathered around us in their late teens/early twenties. One of them piped up about some band called "Norma Jean" and me and the dude discussing the legends looked at her and said, "Who's that?" She looked at us and said she was horrified that we had never heard of them. I told her they are NOTHING next to people like John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison. She actually asked who they were. Me and my discussion partner were horrifed. I asked her if she had ever heard of Ozzy. Her answer: NO. I asked her if she had ever heard of Kurt Cobain: NO. I asked her if she even listened to music. All the time, she says. Please. It actually upset me that some of these people had never heard of these muscians to the point that I began asking random people if they had ever heard of them. I asked a younger dude in his early twenties if he had ever heard of John Lennon. He says, and I quote: "Yeah. He does the tonight show." I told him I said John Lennon, not Jay Leno, and he says: "Yeah, Jay Lennon." I'm ready to pull my hair out. The names of true legends should not die. It depresses me.
NORMA JEAN CAN ROT! these kids obviously don't know what they are saying, norma jean is an awful excuse for a band... i don't appreciate bad taste in music. **no offense to those of you who like that stuff**
jay lennon? lol thats sad. we listening to a oldies/new music station at work so we know our shit and everyone there is around their 20s. so where are these poor ignorant fools from?
That's the thing: Not all teenagers/early twenties can fit the category of sheer ignorance. I'm just wondering how these people have slid through life without even hearing the names.
peculiar. i'm no music afficianado, but still. how do you not know the ultimate basics of modern music?
I think you found a pocket of retards thats not the norm. had they heard of Abraham Lincoln or Hitler?
It upsets me the people only like what the media has taught them to like. She knew of people like Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. I say thanks to American Idol for killing the standards of true music and putting the true artists in the shadows.
You present a good point...there are no standards whatsoever anymore, are there? Pretty much all that needs to be done is get out and act as slutty as you can in front of cameras...makes me wonder why more porn stars haven't released any albums...LOL>
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samantha_Fox There. I didn't read anything about her posing for nudies though.
pop music isnt any different now than it was 20 years ago........ the only difference is, all of yall grew up.
thats upsetting.. my friends are the kind of people that like the new stuff like kelly clarkson and carrie underwood and shit. and everytime i try and listen to the music i looove they're like what the hell is this? this song sucks.. and i'm like dude its jim morrison, nirvana, etc., don't you know? and they have no clue who any of these people are.. and i try to tell them and inform them, and they want nothing to do with it, they'd rather listen to country or rap. i'm glad that i had parents that introduced me to the good stuff when i was young.
