Have you ever been pinned? (I'm in nursing school now and that's what's going to happen to me at the end of the year!)
Duncan. You're showing your AGE, brother! These kids have no idea what that is. For those that don't? It is an old way for a guy to ask her to "GO" with him. (Meaning, Go Steady. Be a Couple.) There can be several forms of this: He "Loans" you his music. Maybe he, Gives you a reptile if you're Goth. Anything. So. Duncan asked HAVE YOU?
I remember watching a Gidget movie when I was a kid, and Moondoggie gives her his pin before he goes away to college.... I always thought it was so sweet... It's the Ultimate! Gee gads! When he asks to borrow money, is that the same thing?
lol yup I've been claimed... Thats how it felt anyway. He was a punk kid so he gave me his jacket. funny stuff...ah, high school.
my reply is this: i fell in love with the whole being pinned/ ring giving thingo when i saw the video clip of Michael Jackson's "thriller", when he gives his girlfriend his ring. (by the way, i am obsessed with him)... so, therefor, i am waiting for the day when a boy will ask me out, and give me his ring... or his pin... and it not mean marriage or some sort of REALLY serious long-term relationship. and you know why else... its because if it didnt work out i could throw it back at him and say "and you can take your ring back, i don't want to see you again...", run away crying. and then he sings songs of woe on the swing at the drive in movies... yes thats right. i live in a movie (grease).
if i live happily ever after... then i get to keep a sweet ass ring that i pass down to my children. then them to their children, and their children.... and then one day, far far away, it will be in a famous museum....
It has the potential for being sexist because the action is one-way. The guy gives the girl the physical possession as his supposed love for her. Some folks might think that it can be a form of marking territory (i.e. she's got MY pin on, buster, so lay off!). I don't know too many guys who wear friendship rings... well, not straight guys anyway
