ok, ok. my dad's FINALLY taking me there in march!:')
even though its quite a while away, i wanna know...are there any "landmarks" or places there that i HAVE to see? it's my 1st time and even though my friend and her dad will be guiding us to places like the house where janis joplin and the dead lived in the 60's, i wanna hit EVERYTHING i can there!
any suggestions as to where i should take a look?
    thanks!

Yes.....San Fran is such a great city, DO NOT limit your trip to just the Haight. You have gotta check out North Beach/Little Italy. That's where the whole "hippie" thing started from, essentially. That's where Kerouac and the Beats hung out. In all honesty, San Francisco is my favorite city in all of the country. Take all of what you can in. One question.....how long are you going to be there for? If you have a short amount of time, I'll guide you to THE places you have to see. If you have a bit longer, I'll suggest a few other places. An BTW, dont get your hopes up about what you will find there....It's NOT the 60s anymore. I mean, there's a GAP on Haight!!!!

Visit the Palace Of Fine Arts too, wonderful architecture dating back to the Grand Exhibition they had there in the early 1900's (or was it before??) also those wonderful parks and gardens, the Japanese one looks amazing.:) I have'nt been there but those are the places I would go if I could.

I agree with Dollydagger, going to San Francisco and only going to the haight would be a waste, not that the haight isn't amazing, it's just it's in one of the greatest cities ever. i went theit three years ago, it wasnt as fun as it would be now tho, because I wasnt a hippie then

    Take a shovel.

You'll need one to move all the yuppies out of your way.

S.F. ain't the same place anymore.

    Moon,
All the above plus.. Panhandle Park has some great Vibes still hanging round..between Ashbury and Shrader it runs purpendicular with Haight Street.. go towards Golden Gate Park from Ashbury.. turn right on Cole, walk down to the end where the Park is.. there, the ppl gathered to sing, dance, laugh and be happy hippies, the Diggers fed the masses there in the Panhandle and many many a band played there before they became famuse.. like Janis, The Dead, The Airplane and too many to name... also Golden Gate Park is amazing for sure, Dont forget to sit under a tree on Hippie Hill and dig the colors and patterns and China Town has some great sights.. riding the Cable Car up the hill and having to push it around at the bottom.. so many things to see and places to visit.

There are still some of The Originals left.. try looking in Buena Vista Park.. and up on the Avenues..

Brightest Blessings on your journey Moon

Dollydagger, Hi you! :sunny: :boat:

Am I to suppose that the sig pic is one of you and some of your friends on a recent road trip to San Francisco ? It is hard to guess which one is you, usually you wear your hat, goggles, and face mask.! I would bet you're the one on the far right, it most resembles your avatar. You look exactly like I pictured you, sans surfboard. It looks like you have been getting a little sun too, and having a fun summer (cool car), and staying in good shape.

Life is just so much fun ! Road trips are so much fun ! See ya!!!!

Correct. I have a friend who was an airbrush artist there for several years.

You see it on TV all the time. When shows need a beach scene, they go to Venice Beach.

i was there a few years back..have a friend that lives in west hollywood. Venice Beach....very crowded and losts of people trying to sell you crap. I couldnt just walk away from everyone trying to sell me stuff, so id get wrapped up in "potential sales" and my friends would have to drag me away from the vendors. I cant help it....little ol southern girl cant be rude to people on purpose!!
