hi Well there is a good chance that I will be moving to Canada on a 1 year work visa by the end of the year. Just wondering what a newcomer should know about things like renting, finding work, lifestyle and the like. Eager to know CConoR
It really depends what area of Canada you're thinking of heading towards... Let us know where or what you're looking for, and I think that you'll have a more informative response. For ex., I can definitely help you out with info about the GTA, Quebec City, Charlesbourg (Qc), Montreal, and Moncton (NB) ..I've lived in all these places. I can also offer some info about most Maritime life, getting around (mostly in the Francophone maritimes if that's where you're heading...) and anywhere East of Guelph, On. But anywhere West of that, I'm useless in that dept. lol... Anyhoo, let us know. Good luck!
It's a big place. Summary: East - cheap housing, no jobs. Central - Middle of the Road. West - expensive housing, jobs at your feet.
It is indeed a big place BlazingDervish . Well, *unlearn.to.be.free* Toronto was going to be my first port of call but its not set in concrete - Vancover appeals to me for some strange reason. What are your thoughts on Vancover? I have family in Toronto and its pretty central but will see how things go. I really don't mind what kind of work I get. Any info would be great.
all depends what kind of lifestyle that you want and the type of work you do ............if your a petrochemical engineer you won't get much work in the east but plenty in the west ......you get my drift .......same thing whether you like rural or urban life ..........canada is vast and diverse
Windy O'neils in collingwood, Ontario accepts alot of irish people on work visa's... how ever.... the manager Doni, is a ****... that tends to rip people off so be careful, they offer ya a place to stay thats a 5 min walk from work, and your close to all the things you need, and its near toronto so thats a plus,.... not too many things to worrie about, you'd prob spend most of your time there drunk, and the girls are easy...
collingwood is near toronto .........if you have a car ...couple hour drive if memory serves me right
Collingwood isn't bad. Tourist town and yeah, the chicks are easy and I say that as a chick that grew up in the area (Though we were from the other side of Wasaga) If you like to party and ski and can handle shitty seasonal/tourist type jobs, it's nice. 'Course if that's what you like and want to bump it up a notch, you could also try Whistler
I think your going to get expensive and cheap all over. Vancouver kicks ass I did notice alot of strange people down by the bus station other than that it looks pretty clean, Toronto is about same in the area of kickin ass. Montreal is my personal fav. but thats where im from. And other than that theres absolutley nothing.....
