Well, I need help finding a suitable religion. This may be dumb, but I want to try it. I am not remotely religous, except for my mom being catholic (goes to church only on holidays with my grandmother) and my dad is also not religous. I am looking for a mind expanding religion, maybe to better explain what happens after death. I do understand that peoples views will be different since you all may have different religous views. I am 15 btw.
umm why worry bout after death till your dead why not try to find a philosophy or belief that helps u understand life? after all lifes what we got to live, the here & now wasnt meant to be wasted wondering what was next it was meant to be lived, so let life be yopur religion, live it & love it if conceisness does continue after death then cant that conceisness decide to switch beliefs then? till then theres just 1 thing that you can truly believe in, yourself, your life...
You don't need a religion to know God. Matter a fact, you're better off without any of them. They have grown corrupted by time. Their masters have long sinced passed away and left flocks of sheep without any leadership. They are like old vines which produce little worthwhile fruit. They should be pulled up by the roots and burned. I suggest you get a book or two from the library. Autobiography of a Yogi. Play of conciousness. x
religion isn't intrinsically bad, and i think thinking about death/afterlife is healthy and important. if you're really just looking for information about the afterlife, read the tibetan book of the dead. there are other books of the dead too, but the tibetan is the most popular. also, i know the vedas go into a lot of detail about the afterlife. a LOT. a lot of the vedas are hard, almost impossible, to get in english. but i know a lot of people who read the srimad bhagavatam and said it talked in detail about the afterlife, so if you're really interested that information is available. it's broken down to a science almost. i'm not saying this to try to push hinduism on you, because honestly i am not completely hindu. i am just offering up what i can. i don't think it's smart to just try to find one religion, i think it's important to explore and participate and research into whichever religions interest you. it's an adventure. you don't have to know right away what you definitely believe, but it's really interesting to see what is out there.
Put your faith in Jesus Christ and show love towards everyone in the journey we call life, and you will be happier than ever.
jesus never made me happy...but thats just me because some people are just bananas about jesus...if it makes you happy then do it. if you do choose to follow a religion, do some research before deciding on who or what you follow. there may be the same Truth in the words of jesus as there are in any other human. that doesn't necessarily mean you should follow any other human's ideas of Truth, but rather, use the wisdom of others as a guideline to find your own Truth.
Yea I agree with bits and peices of what everyone here has suggested. In my opinion, God is God, no matter what any calls it/him/her or how they go about acknowledging its/his/her manifestation/essence. But one thing that is widley practiced in just about every mass religion, as far as I know of, is a form of meditation. Prayer, Yoga, etc. Christians, Muslems, Hindus, etc. God is God, and the only way you are ever going to get in tune with this is through your intuition. Meditation, yoga, prayer, whatever you feel comfortable with to start. A lot of people claim to believe in God, to talk to God, and some even claim to know God. But you can only be shown methods of how to get where these people claim to be at. Not through church, or group prayer, or temples. Your own body is a temple, let God inside! And I agree with xexon, Autobiog. or just about anything by Yogananda is pure bliss. After that, try reading his versions of Bhagavad Gita and the 2nd Coming of Christ, he gives an amazing view on how the Krsna and Christ share the exact same science. And then, after that, try the Holy Science by Swami Yukteswar, he basically gives you an amazing point of view on reality, if you can swallow that much he has to offer. It's not for everyone, but it's worth looking into. Good luck, and be yourself -
Ok, I havn't really read what others advice was yet, but I was sort of in a similar situation last year when I your age. The first thing I would say is don't look for a religion that explains something. I don't know if what I mean is clear, but thats really the only way I can say it. Also, I don't think you should expect to find waht your looking for quickly. I started out w/ an interest in Hinduism and Buddhism. From there I started meditating. Thenn I started doing psychedelics, which after awhile really started to help me spiritually. I think itsreally about finding the way that works for you. Psychedelics helped me, but they certainly wouldn't help everyone. Right now I have strong beliefs, but the more I read and experience the more they are changed. Not always dramatically, but still change. I agree with parts of virtually every religion I am aware of, but I don't follow one exclusively.
Magic Mushrooms exposed me to the 6th sphere of the sound Om. That's enough proof in my mind as to how valid a spiritual experience on psychedlics can be. I went from a confused, scatter brained perspective as to the nature of God and reality, to a firm grasp on the fact that one aspect of God permeates all of this illusive physical reality. And obviously, this would mean there is an essence, though I am not even close to having the ability to speak with assured personal athourity on that matter. I'll leave that to the saints who have the solid look in the eyes that tell you that they no longer have questions, about anything, at all, nor fear. They know. -
Try my religion... Here are the commandments. 1. Know thyself. That's the only one... Now for the foundation doctrines. 1. The universe is the manifestation of divine intent. 2. All is learning. 3. You do not need jesus or muhammed or joseph smith or anyone in fact to be your middleman when communicating with God. 4. Every religion every philosophy every perception of God is valid, the truth is a mosaic of all perceptions of all thinking creatures. 5. The material observable testable universe is only a part of a greater whole. 6. What goes around comes around...karma. 7. Fear is the enemy of man. 8. Knowledge is power, knowledge brings you closer to God. 9. You are God experiencing reality as you, thats what your soul is. 10. Negative emotions (hate fear desire) bring you back to the jungle. Thats the basics...but there's more...
Find out about various religons. Might wanna look at ALL the posibilities not just the main ones e.g Jainism. Then decide which one you believe. Well thats what i wouldve done had i not already been born to one I believe in.
