i used to hire out vhs religiously and then when we got a dvd player i felt like the coolest person ever. and my friends would all come to mine to watch a dvd because noone relaly had one yet.

gone are the days of vhs. (we still have an old one though)

    For that matter, what's Beta?

    :)

Then there was LaserDisc, although that went from the late 70s to about the late 90s.

I still have my vhs too :D

I'm starting to feel dated with my discman tho... I haven't bought an iPod and still just listen to cd's if I'm taking a long train ride into the city or something... it just seems so big and clunky compared to the itty bitty iPod...

Yeah, it's amazing how fast the switch to DVD from VHS occured. Makes sense though--no more stuck ribbons, rewinding, blowing dust out of the crevices...and DVD's are so easy to copy, you can't blame anyone for wanting to switch.

I still have a VHS though and since all the video stores seem to be phasing out VHS this year, I got a few good films for really cheap, and the library is packed with a great selection.

everyone still has a VCR. VHSs are $2 and DVDs are $20, it seems like an obvious choice.

and laserdisc???? i thought that was a failed idea that was just forced on poor elementary schools, like macintosh

Oh hell yes, back in 99 having a DVD player made you one of the cool kids, course then by 2001 a lotta people had PS2s and DVDs alike and it didn't matter anymore.

Earliest I can remember watching a movie on DVD was in 1997, having come from Russia just two years earlier I had no idea what that was, then starting in 98 our French teacher/English teacher ( elementary school ) used Laserdisc, remember THAT? lol.

I got my DVD player in 99 btw.
