i've been watching horror movies for years. as a kid the cover scared me far more than the actual movie. they are always so cheeseball and funny, rather than scary. i find myself laughing at bad acting, bad effects, and bad plots. so does anyone know of a horror film that is actually scary? and as aside, what the hell is with the green tint in every single horror movie since 2000?
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, and Last House on the Left, or even I Spit On Your Grave, will make you feel really bad, shitty, and dirty, itll leave a mark on you like what a real horror movie should. But if your into crappy jump up scares that are always played out the same, watch the Descent.
I agree, Last House on the Left-for sure! Also, I think that The Devil's Rejects and The HIlls Have Eyes fall into the same, dirty-scary, category. Also the first 25-30 minutes of the original When A Stranger Calls, terrifying! I haven't seen this one in years, but from what I remember when I was little-Crawlspace, is a pretty good one-it's an older movie from like the early 80's. Also, the movie CUBE is pretty good, as well as it's sequels.
The exorcist scared me a lot!!! I can't wait till the release date of SHROOMS film here in England...!!will see if this film will scare us!! Have anybody heard this upcoming film??
Silent Hill and Gothika, actually they are not tottaly scary but the plot of the story will scares you that's the real essence of horror movie... _________________ DVD CORNER AMAZING TV SHOWS
I agreed. The exorcist scared the hell out of me... and I haven't heard about the Shrooms,I know it's a horror film but what is it about??
SYNOPSIS FOR SHROOMS: A group of American teens comes Ireland to visit an Irish school friend who takes them on a camping trip in search of the local, fabled magic mushrooms. When the hallucinations start taking hold, the panicked friends are attacked by ghostly creatures; never able to determine if they are experiencing gruesome reality or startling delirium. When one teenager unknowingly eats the dangerous Death's Head mushroom, the group's nightmare takes a deeply sinister turn...
Yes,, I love to watch EXORCIST.... but this time more excited to watch this another directed film of Paddy Breathnach's " SHROOMS":dupe: Sure, the moon as a skull thing has been done before. But this is a very good implementation of that concept. It cleverly includes the movie’s premise, which involves a bunch of teenagers getting high on mushrooms. And it also conveys a scary but still humorous mood, which I imagine is what the movie is going for. Before I saw this poster I didn’t even know this movie existed. Now I’m curious about it. So, it works for me.
That depends entirely on what scares you. As adults I think it's much easier to find subject matter that creeps us out, rather then something that is going to genuinely scare us. Especially if you're going to try to compare being scared now with being scared as a child, which I think is very hard, if not impossible, to do.
http://www.amazon.com/HP-Lovecraft-Unnamable-Charles-Klausmeyer/dp/6301008057 This movie gave me the willies pretty bad first time I saw it. Watch it in the dark. The creature is excellent. http://www.amazon.com/Night-Flier-Miguel-Ferrer/dp/6304936397 Lots of gore, good suspense. Stephen King stuff. http://www.amazon.com/Jeepers-Creepers-Avis-Marie-Barnes/dp/B00005RHGK One of the better recent horror films, The second one was okay too. http://www.amazon.com/Its-Alive-John-P-Ryan/dp/6302814715 Another one that will make your skin crawl. Watch it in the dark. http://www.amazon.com/Apocalypse-Now-Sam-Bottoms/dp/6305609705 When you were young, all the monsters had fangs and such, but when you grow up, you find that all the monsters have human faces. Apocalypse Now is a very dark movie. It's scary because it can really happen. Long, but worthwhile. "The horror...the horror..." (I'm somebody who saw The Exorcist at the drive-in. Man, I didn't sleep much for a few days afterward. ) x

I don't really think comedy and horror can be separated. We're all always going to think horror movies are fairly cheesy. The inherent humour involved in horror can't be hidden. The screaming instead of running, the running into danger rather than out of it, and the very idea of being eaten by a dimwitted zombie are all share inherent comedic value. and I don't know anything about the green tint.
I thought The Exorcism of Emily Rose was one of the scarier movies ive seen in a while. Based on a true story, and theres a couple scenes in there that are literally bone chillinglly (yes, i just made that word up) scary, and worth the viewing of the movie alone. Hills have eyes was dirty, filthy, crazy, horror. definitely flirt with the edge of ridiculousness but its a crazy, and good flick if you like that sorta thing. Hostel is also a similar one where gruesome and brutal things happen to people in an underground lair thing in a hotel in Europe. Also pretty scary...Devils Rejects is also pretty solid. dont waste your time with gothika or jeepers creepers....weak sauce
Exorcist & the Shining scare me, though just about everybody's seen them at least once, so you probably already have an opinion on it. The original Evil Dead scared the hell out of me, but most people I talk to about it just thought it was stupid. I love Romero's films--Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, etc... I saw a Japanese film called Audition that was really strange and gruesome, if you don't mind subtitles. House of 1000 corpses is a favorite of mine, though it is not terribly scary for the most part.
good luck trying to find recent scary movies. I went to go see halloween the remake, and whenever there's a scary part, the camera starts shaking. like, really shaking, epilleptic-fit seizures you can't even see anything it's all just a big blur. anyway the hills have eyes was pretty good. the second one...pretty good too.
