Alright folks, took me since january to decide, but I'm committed to dreading my hair now. It has already been a journey just making the decision I can only imagine the intense experience of forming these babies over the next year :)

My mind is ready for the time and patience, my body is ready for a knotty head! I have just ordered both bar and liquid Dr. Bronners Tea Tree soap. I figured I would see which I liked best. I would like to let my dread form naturally and just keep up with the pulling apart and rolling. Would you recommend some backcombing to start out as well? I have a buddy willing to help if that is the case. I don't plan on using wax or any kind of band, wise choice?

Let me know if you have any great recommendations for the actual startig process. Wet or dry hair? Backcomb or natural 100%? Or should I just section hair after my first Bronners shampoo and see what it decides to do over the next few weeks? We shall see! Will post picture of my hair now soon.

if you want to have the appearance of dreads more immediately, i would suggest backcombing dry, clean hair. if you want to let it happen naturally, your hair will decide what it wants to do and you can rip and separate then. hope that helps!

it will dread beautifuly any way you choose i woulxd say natural but you have to decide yourself natural yopu are bound to go through a purely messy head stage that some find to be discouraging
so backcombing can help to limmit the out of controll messiness in the early stages
but it alll depends on your personality
& youve got beautiful hair that will make drool worthy dreads

Your always so encouraging :) I can't wait to have mature dreads, we shall see how they develop. I absolutely love yours, and thank god you didn't end up losing them! How is that scalp thing going by the way. Much love and hugs my friend!
PS, did I tell you I got my first djembe?

Whoops, I posted my pic in the wrong thread (Thanks Jademermaid).

The cons as I see it are:
If you go natural, It will be an absolute bitch ripping them apart. If you backcomb, the initial process will take a while
    .

Benefits: Well, theyre both too long to list

    :)
