I saw this comedian thgis morning on the bbc and he said scotts have got a reputaion for mean mindedness but people from aberystwyth are so mean they are like scottish people with the generosity stripped away

dont you think that kind of joke was best left in the 1970's???

Are you trying to say the average Scottish bloke is a nice gentleman?
Same as when you see a scouser you gotta hide your purse

Im joking by the way but yeah every scot i have seen has been on the firey side

Ah, people can say whatever they want. We might aswell.
It's not something I'd say though! Bit on the harsh side for me.

i dont agree people should say what they want otherwise someone would start badmouthing other races - so why is it acceptable to say scottish people are mean and stingy but its not ok to say black people are lazy and workshy, or illiterate morons?

Or are you going to say we have to assess which is most true -
Perhaps if both statements are the truth we should be able to state the truth
If a statement is not true we should not be allowed to state it even in a joke
otherwise we might characterise all scots as stingy no good pennypinching theives

I dont think its fair in any case if they stop out of racism to black and asian people then they should stop racism to Scots an all.

People say lots of horrible shit. But I think it's fair to say that people who do are in the minority. It's when action is taken, or their words become a rally cry that we need to think about any censorship.

I don't personally think it's fair to say "Scottish people are mean and stingy", that's why I pointed out that it's not something I would say. But it's not for me (or anyone else I think), to tell others what they can talk about either.

As for the broadcasting of such thoughts/jokes/whathaveyou, I don't know really. I guess it should be allowed, you'd have to keep a closer eye as that word is getting out to alot of people. But I doubt the BBC are becomming an anti-Scottish corperation so we needn't worry them banning Billy Connelly or anything :)

I thought we were...Ok, maybe not the thieve part :)

Why not let anybody say whatever they want! Let everybody believe what they want to, that way all the morons would believe in some really bizzarre hateful rubbish, making them easier to spot and avoid.

Oh and speaking of Billy Connoly, Im sure I seen him on his trike a little while ago! I waved but no reply, maybe wasnt him, no sign of a pink beard :D
