Hello ... a belated introduction

Hello -

I've been posting in various forums for the last few days and finally have gotten around to introducing myself. I live near Poughkeepsie NY in a rural area - lots of dairy farms, wineries, and apple orchards, along with foxes, coyotes, deer, lynxes, and black bears.

I earned my bachelor's degree in English, with a concentration in secondary education. However, I discovered that I am ill suited to teaching in public school and I could only teach at a private school that has over 50% need based scholarship students. I currently work at an agency that assists at risk adolescents.

I am entering a MFA program in creative writing in January (I write psychological horror stories and contemporary faerie tales), am a collage artist, and a gardener. I grow my own herbs, flowers, and fruits. I also make preserves and I have a poison garden (wolf's bane, belladona, deadly nightshade, datura, and hemlock), roast coffee at home, and make my own soap and cleaning products; the soap is made with lye, water, and organically grown vegetable oils and butters - none of that smelly melt and pour stuff - just nice clean smelling natural soap. I am also really into tattoos and piercings. I'm considered quite eccentric by everyone who knows me, though I think in these forums I could be considered far less so.

Though I had never put much stock in monogamy, I have been in such a relationship for over 3 years now and we are trying to make a child together. I am also looking into adopting two children.

I think that is a fairly good introduction/reduction of my life. The rest leaks out here and there in other posts.
