Kinda stupid comparing to other posts here..

This is kind of stupid comparing to other posts here... which seem to be kidna sexual in nature lol but oh well. Its a real problem and i hope i get serious response. not any of that "Get over it" or "What a loser" bull.

Ok, heres the Deal. I'm 17 years old and I live in Missouri. Due to all kinds of shit I havn't gotten my license, ive had my damn permit since i was like freakin 2 days over 15, but still no license. The thing is, i never really had a chance to get it before.. but now I do. I want sooo bad to drive, I mean, my g/f got her license the day she turned 16.. and she just drives me around like its nothing.. well you guys know.. thats embarassing. to have ur girlfriend haul you around. Come on I mean I'm the guy, i should be doin the driving. Well.. I keep putting the drivers exam off.. cuz im kinda nervous and scared about driving.. like when I do drive ( when my g/f lets me...) I'm nervous and kinda shakey. I cant smoke nor can i have the radio on because It's just too distracting... any comments would be great.. and if u want me to elaborate any, just ask. thanks

 

I have had over 40 driving lessons and am still shit.

 

aw u're cute..
i say dont force yourself too much if u're really scared about driving. some pple just cant do it cuz they're so nervous, and they can be dangerous behind the wheel.. so yea... be sure u're comfortable before driving...

having said that, u're probably just nervous cuz u've just started driving and u're young (in France u cant get your licence before u're 18, so yea, to me 16-17 is young to drive !)... just give yourself some time, take a few more lessons, dont stress out about the exam (u dont have a lot to lose eh!)

Thanks bunches Crayola ^_^ Yea, i kno i shouldn't really be nervous or anything, esp with my girlfriend. I don't know, i guess it's because I'm afraid I'll mess up, and if that makes me nervous them I'm just bound to mess up. Plus I don't live with my family, I live with my g/fs family.. and the way they are... well let's just say if I did fail my test, they would find great humor and humility in that...

Listen Blackie, I don't think it's macho for me the guy to drive. It just sucks being hauled around by ANYONE. I'm more nervous then scared. Because if I DO fuck up, I'll have a lot more to worry about than a slap on the wrist like you or someone else might. The problem isn't that simple :-(

ah c'mon, its not that all macho.. i mean, yea, sure, he shouldnt feel stupid when his gf drives him around, but its normal that he wants to drive her as well. whats wrong with that?

 

Exactly Crayola. I mean, you hate being driven around by your mother when your younger, so it's natural when your of age ( 16 here) that YOU want to be the one driving. Like I said, its not a matter of being macho or not.

 

Everyone is somewhat nervous when they begin to drive. And maybe it makes you more nervous than some....but if you put off learning, you are only perpetuating this fear. Practice makes perfect....tis true, my friend. And with practice you will get more and more used to things....pretty soon it will be like nothing. Where are you doing your practicing? Start out in parking lots or any place where there arent many cars untill ya get the hang of it. No worrys.

 

Thanks for the advice Elle ( im very partial to that name it was my best friends) But I can drive just fine, I've driven off and on with someone or other for the past 2 almost 3 years. I just get so damn jittery sometimes.. but yea, i think i should just start with a clean slate ya kno. Learn all over again.. kinda as reassurence that I CAN do it without any fear. Jaden, I was the same as you for a while....I got my permit right when I turned 15. And then I never got my license. I was 18, senior in high school, being hauled around my mom. It took a toll on my social life, not to mention it impeded my sex-life HORRIBLY! My reasons for not taking the test was simple...We didn't have the money to put me on the insurance should I actually become a licensed driver, so I didn't get my license to help my family financially....

Now, I have my license (from OK, but it still counts ) and I hate to drive. It makes me feel awkward after so long with having other people cart me around. But I know where you are coming from.

PS. Blackie, I HATED having anyone cart me around. I felt useless, so I know where he is coming from. It's not a macho thing, it's an independence thing. You can't be independent and not be able to get yourself from place to place without help.

 

Shit, I got my license when I was 18 almost 19...
and i flunked my permit, yes permit, test twice...
dont feel bad, happens to the best of us...

 

You think that's bad? I'm 22 and still have my learner's permit! :& I get really nervous when I try to drive and the people who have tried to teach me just got angry that I was nervous. And my fear of driving just kept escalating. It didn't help that I grew up with a wrecked car sitting in my yard. My uncle died in a car accident when he was 17 and it devistated my grandmother so much that she couldn't part with that car. I was 4 when he died and from then on I grew up looking at the car my uncle died in. No wonder I don't want to drive!

I have to learn soon and I know I have to. I don't want to mind you, but I have to so I'm going to try to learn. I'm not looking forward to it. I can drive fine on low traffic roads, but get me on a major road and I panic. oh joy.

 

Thanks guys, ur input has helped me a lot. NightOwl, i know what you mean. I do find on low traffic roads, but damn, on the a heavy highway i freak. ESP when a semi/trackter trailor passes me O_O

 

Semis scare me too because that's how my uncle died...a semi hit his car and dragged it down the road. What I really don't like is being on a busy 4 lane road with lots of traffic and trying to change lanes. Panic!!! (I swear...I should just go amish and have a horse and buggy...I could handle that! lol)

 

People are scared to drive with me, cause I have been in 7 accidents. One, the very first one was my fault. The rest, people hit me. Well, there was that one time where I ran over my parents mailbox that was classic..
and the time I was dumb and drove back roads when it was really icy and snowy out and ran off the road and hit a tree and couldnt get out of my car
But the rest were not my fault. I get scared to drive cause of other people. People who talk on cell phone while driving, soccer mom running you off the road with her van, and people that decide to eat there meal while driving. Or when you are behind someone and you can see there kids beating the shit out of eachother and the parent turning halfway around to beat them, and the van starts swurving..hehe thats good stuff..
And teen drivers (no offense to anyone please) and I am talking about the ghetto drivers, the ones that thinks they dont have to obey traffic laws and such. See, all my accidents except for one, have been with teens. Not all teens drive crazy like that, but a lot of the scary ones do...

stop worrying so much about it. get into a positive mindframe, get in the car knowing that you're the shit and you're gona drive that car no matter what.
