I've just come back from a relaxing stay up in Llambedr Pont Stefan (Lampeter), West Wales. I loved it. I already go on about how much I love Wales, but it is most certainly official. It's like Devon, but the size of a whole country, plus the countryside is even more beautiful, changeable and untainted. Plus, I love to listen to the language. So, I want to move to Wales... I must say though...Swansea and Port Talbot are shite holes!
Don't move anywhere too West or North, because you won't be treated so well by the locals. Also, don't move to the city areas, because they're shitholes and rough. Try Aberystwyth or Lampeter. Make an attempt at learning the language as well, and speaking it: you'll get alot more respect from the locals.
Actually, I was learning bits of Welsh whilst I was away and I was only there for 4 days! I think you should learn the local language/lingo if you go anywhere, it's damn rude otherwise. I found the locals to all be extremely polite and friendly too. Thankyou thankyou! As for Aber...bit of a shitehole. So defo won't be there! I like Lampeter because I have friends there already and it's not completely dead. I didn't manage to get over to Aberaeron, anyone know what it's like? Also... the only disappointment I found with Wales...I only saw about 4 fields of sheep...the rest were all cows!
No! Aberystwyth isn't a shithole! It's probably one of the nicest places in Wales. The North is a shithole, and so is the South. The only nice place is the West, and perhaps Brecon. What's wrong with Aberystwyth? Aberaeron is a lovely little town though! It has a really nice fish'n'chip's restaurant called The New Celtic, and a lot of motorcycle clubs drive through there on their way to Aberystwyth. Also, check out New Quay as well, because that's a nice seaside fishing town as well.
my sister did a degree in welsh in lampeter and i lived there for three years, great place and la matthews is right about learning to speak welsh very good thing to do, you can do summer intensive course in lampeter uni
Oh! Plus they have a house called 'Brian the House'! It's big and blue and by the small harbour. I think it's 'Brian', or something. Also, my friend's up in Aberystwyth are friend's with a guy from Nottingham, and he can speak fluent Welsh from just being around the people. It's really odd to hear a guy with a strong English accent speaking Welsh.
You cannot go wrong in Liverpool. Apparently the capital of North Wales. Get a place in Liverpool then take a train to Chester and simply change to go toward Holyhead. Or you could live in Cardiff. Apparently it is a good City now and of course it is opposite Bristol. Britain's answer to Babylon. Most of Wales is fields, mountains and deep valleys. It is a beautiful COuntry with many a lamb and many a fine folk. However if you want to hear the Welsh language being spoken alot. Head up to North Wales. South Wales is too English. You may be dissapointed.
You wanna go to Carmarthenshire, that's where it's all happening. I moved over here in April to a little village called Mynyddcerrig near Llanelli (you've gotta love those welsh place names!) Carmarthenshire's got everything - Carmarthen's a pretty big town which has seemed really nice everythime I've been in their, and Llandeilo is a beautiful little town too, with the most amazing ice cream shop. Carmarthenshire is also home to the Oak Dragon School of Initiation into the Mystery Traditions where they do sweat lodges, public pagan ceremonies and teach magical development classes. The biggest selling point though, has got to be the Tipi Valley in the black mountains.
Aye, loads of people have been mentioning the Tipi Valley. I like Sir Gay-fiddlin (Sir Gaerfyrddin/Carmarthenshire), but I think I'm more into Ceredigion. But it's only next door, so I'm sure I'd still be hanging out there a lot.
I'm looking for jobs and I think it's time to move far away and start over and have found a few jobs in Cardiff, anyone know what it's like there??
Cardiff is a real nice city. It's small enough to not get confused, but big enough so you don't feel you're in a big town, rather than a city. Nice park by the museum also.
