i've been stressed out over school lately, i'm in two intensive summer courses and the course work is making it so i study about 8-10 hours a day at least, not including class time...plus i've wait tables and tutor on the side. so i've been thinking about taking up meditation in order to maybe mellow out a little, but i have no idea how to go about it. it seems simple, yet i dont know where to start. any tips?
it IS simple. just clear your mind and focus on something beutiful or curious. If you focus all of your attention on something simple or something you see every day, you do get calm. By focusing your attention, I mean, Look at your computer desk or your dining room table. Look at the wood grains... It turned from a desk to wood. See the wood in a tree... I mean REALLY look into everything around you. Or look at your wall and see the paint, see the plaster the insulation, the wood. That puts me at peace. Good Luck
Well first off it is not sapose to be used as just a relaxsation thing, if you continue on you will find out some intresting thing aobut yourself and the way things seem to flow A good method i would sugjest to start with is the mindfulness of breating or if you want to impress your friends Annapattasatii Spelt horriably wonrg ( Anna Patta Satee ) what do to Sit down or lay down, the more importating thing being comfort and if your back is stright. just start breating normaly and keep a focus on the force of the breath coming in your nose and going back out. Dont try to attempt to influince your breating in anyways. Anthoer good focus is the rising and falling of your abdomen as you breath in and out. take which ever is easyest for you Some Info rember to keep your min on the focus, and not go of chatting to your self. if this happen. and it will maybe with out even realizing it simple bring yoursaelf back You may find it easyer to medatate after a short work out, its seems to quiet the brain and connect the mind and body. Dont get discouraged. I rember my first time at a monastary (yes ive been) i was not so proficent at medation and was new to it and then a week in i hit somehting. a deep relaxed spot and now i find it easy to find that spot or state everytime and it develpos from there. i sort of think of it as a save spot in a game. and i am waiting for the other to come by it should be veyr promising And wow ive written more then i have thought. i know a bit about other meditations as well and spirutal or eneger healer so do be afiradi to ask
I find it difficult to teach meditation over the net, or even give others meaningful advice. So I have fallen back on pointing people in the direction of learning the official Transcendental Meditation technique which had worked for me for 20 years. Check it out!
Silence is golden and recharging. Give yourself a minute break to close your eyes and just listen deeply both out and inside. Take slow deep breaths and fill yourself with relaxation. Then return to where your are working from. Perhaps you will have more time for reading or a group soon.
I'm pretty new at this too really, and what Jay said really is true! Not at first, but after a while the benefits will amaze you. It could take weeks or months, but don't give up because how your life will improve will be magnificent. My life was an absolute nervous wreck, everything had fallen apart...but both meditation and yoga changed my life around completely. It's an exciting journey! Good luck!
