Wondering if anyone could help me out a bit

This is the first time I tried to cultivate some herb. I brought back a few seeds from Jamaica and plated them outside in Colorado the first of June. It is now August and I have a plant 4-1/2 feet tall (stem is about 3/4" thick). Nothing has budded yet. Periodically I have been pruning the larger water leaves. I have not purned the top of the plant yet. Can Any one please answer the following questions:

    1. When should I take it indoors for the 12 hr day 12 hr night cycle? should I wait till the end of the summer or start the budding process now?

    2. How long will it take to start budding, or will it even bud?

    3. I am still having a hard time finding out if it is male or female? Any suggestions?

    4. If you had a plant in the above situation, what would you do to maximize budding?

Any suggestion sure would be greatful.....thanks

    1. Why would you bring it indoors, it will flower on its own over the next 6-8 weeks.

    2. Look for it to start budding soon (or showing male)

    3. Just keep looking....

    4. Make sure its getting plenty of phosphorus, and cut back on the nitrogen.

For god sakes don't prune the fanleaves. That's where the plant gets it's energy from.
