for the past few hours, ive had horrible pop up problems. i took the advice of a friend and downloaded AVG anti-spyware 7.5, ran it and deleted all the files except an Adware.Generic that it said had an error while deleting. every time ive had problems like this in the past i just did system restore but ive got A LOT of music on here i dont wanna loose.

    thanks for the help

I don't know AVG, but if you had a quarantine option, that's what you wanna do to that file

well, do you have more than 2 partitions in your hard disk? if so you can move your music files to an other partition and reinstall your operation system in your first partition.

There are 3 rules to computer happiness.

    Don't use Internet Explorer.

    Use a firewall.

    Back up your critical information.

You've broken all 3 from the sound of it.

Welcome to the error of your ways.

Buy an external hard drive and back up your music before formatting. AVG is pretty good - I use it too, but there are far superior virus scanners out there...you just have to be willing to pay for them!

    at the very least...

and btw, McAfee counts your updates from one year after registration. after one year, reinstall McAfee and re-register. my dad still gets updates from the McAfee 2005 version.
