...how much weight can you lose by not eating anything or just a little like fruit, in a week? I'm just asking, I know it's not healthy and its stupid, but i'm wondering?
if you starve your self and dont eat regular meals, you will find you will most likely put weight on :S you metabolism slows down as the body thinks it is starving so will store every last scrap as fat. eating small regular healthy meals is the way to go hun ps, check out slimming world if you want to lose weight. i lost 1 stone 4.5 lb in 9 weeks and i never went hungry and the weight has stayed off 2 years later
I know people who ate fewer than 400 calories and lost weight pretty quickly? I don't understand all of this!!
Fasting is a GREAT way to lose weight. Seriously. Most of the time your body stores toxins in fat cells. Detox = less fat cells. Plus a vegan diet is about the healthiest you can eat. Go for it!
Don't fast...That's a retarded way to lose weight. Go to a festival; they drain away your energy. I lost nearly half a stone in a weekend from Glastonbury. But seriously, just eat healthy and don't worry about it so much.
I'm not sure about this "detox" business, can you give any references for these claims? (NB: Carol Vorderman doesn't count.) I thought our bodies had fairly efficient mechanisms for getting rid of toxins, via the kidneys and whatnot. I agree with LAM, the main thing is to eat a healthy varied diet, losing weight shouldn't be a goal in itself.
Starving yourself and then eating, only makes you obese. This is because the body doesn't know when it is going to get its next meal, so it stores fat. The blob has already got me and diets all claim to work and some do, then you get the blob back before you can even celebrate. Gi diets, Atkins Diets, Fatkins diets, Vegetarian diets. I think once you are overweight, it is impossible to permentaly lose weight. One needs their stomach stapled and it should be on the Nhs. starving yourself only makes you fatter. I have tried it and now I weigh 17 stone. The blob is ruining my life. I used to be slim. But I suppose my awful past, made me binge eat when I was twelve. I used to buy ten quid worth of mars bars, snickers and Whispa bars. All I can say is: an operation is the only way. I call it Operation weightloss.
i dunno, like i said slimming world worked for me, but then it is hardly a diet. more of re training yourself to eat the right foods in combination. like i said i lost over a stone without ever being hungry and apart from normal fluctuations depending on my cycle the weight has stayed off 2 years later i think fasting is a useful tool to stay healthy, but i wouldnt do it for weight loss. when i split with a long term partner i didnt eat (had zero appetite) for 2 weeks and didnt lose a single ounce, i guess my body was concentrating on more important things :S sensible eating and plenty of fresh air and exercise i think are the way to go
Another enemy of weight loss is Water Retention. This can put pounds on even if you have eaten the right foods. Swimming is difficult for me. I get out of breath and nearly sink to the bottom or get mistaken for an island. In which case people try to shore. I think either an operation. Or gym. But gyms cost a lot of money and are usually reserved for the rich and successful.
well its like smoking or any drug. you can do it, but youll find its good, and youll want to do it again and then youll end up wishing you never did it in the first place! trust me, i wear the t-shirt. diet sensibly x oh and when i say its good, lets just clarify, thats a misguided impression you gain. it is actually far from good and will mess you physically and mentally! from one who knows x
ignore J0hn How much weight you would lose would depend on how much energy you used during the week but you would probably lose a few kilograms. After a couple of days the body will start to metabolise muscle tissue, not fat, and then when you start eating again not only will you not have lost much fat but you will put on more fat than you had and have a slower metabolism than before because you will have less muscle. This is why starving yourself makes you gain weight in the long run. It's quite possible to lose weight no matter how much fat you have, there's only one way to do it: by consuming fewer calories than you expend. To do it sustainably you need to eat just under the amount of energy you use, by maybe 500 to 1000 calories at most over a long period. Eat slightly less and do more physical exercise and the weight will come off. If you can work out how much energy you eat in calories and how much you expend in activity the difference allows you to work out precisely the weight of fat you will metabolise (or gain) because 3500 kcal = 1 pound weight of fat. Here's a useful calorie calculator which tells you how much energy you use by doing a variety of activities ranging from sleeping / sitting down to doing various sports: http://www.stevenscreek.com/goodies/calories.shtml To lose 1kg of fat you need to eat 7800 kcal less than you expend over maybe a couple of weeks, that's like eating two less Mars bars per day. Weight loss is just simple maths
Excercise. You dont need to go to a gym - try Yoga or jog or swim. Swimming is a great way to excercise. Dont stress. You probably wont lose that much weight if you starve yourself and when you do start eating again you'll probably (this im guessing) put it all on. If you just diet for a while then you'll just put it all back on once you come off the diet - itd be better to change your diet properly and eat healthier and do regular excercise. Theres no point excercising and eating healthily for a few weeks and loosing weight to put it all back on again when you're back to the original lifestyle.
