depends on what level, where, etc.

In BC, the place to start would be a history degree and then minors in 2 other teachable subjects. Then you do an extra year or two to get your teaching certificate.

to be a high school teacher in the states all you need is to major in what you want to teach and take the PRAXIS 2, which tests you in your area of interest. You do not need a master's degree. Although, ACT 83 (I could be wrong with the number) requires you to take a certain amount of grad credits each year at the tax payer's expense. I will have my degree in Elementary/Special Education in the spring and I know for a fact that you do not need a master's degree to teach. In fact, if you want to teach at intercity schools you don't even need a degree. You can sign up for "Teach For America" and they give you an emergency certification. You'll get paid shitty, but it can happen.

Yup. Im an early childhood major (to teach elemntry) I have to take 129 hrs, and my certification test. To teach highschool you major in what you want to teach with intent to get ceritfyed (talk to you advisor), and then you test. Its really easy seeing as how no one wants to teach. (sorry for the spelling i just got up)

To teach elementary it is different though all you have to have is a bachelors and take the certification test and you can teach elementary school. You don't have to have been an education major.

I'm going to school to be a history teacher as well for high school. Actually i'm in a program called social studies group so I can teach history, geography, economics, political science, and social studies. It's just a 4 year program. Then you take a test when you're done.

as far as the education you need, it's really not much. though i will say, one of my good friends (and one of the smartest people i know) went to college specifically to be a history teacher and after two years of being unable to find a job anywhere in ohio or any nearby states, ended up joining the peace corps and is now in about month 4 of a 27 month stay in romania.

i'm pretty sure it's never too late to take those tests. i know most colleges in ohio look at ACT over SAT. i'm sure you can still get in either way though, considering how many middle aged and older people get in; i'm sure not all of them took their tests back in high school. myself, i went to university of toledo. i would recommend staying in the state, due to tuition costs, but i would probably recommend somewhere else if you're really looking for the "college experience" because this is more of a ghetto experience where everyone that isn't part of the university basically wants it to leave the city altogether

I went to community college and you don't need SAT or ACT test scores. Now I go to Temple University in Philly. I'm not a history ed major though. Your first 2 years is all basic shit so there is no point to wasting a lot of money on a bigger school if you're going to get the same degree.

All of my sisters and I want to become teachers, my boyfriend does too. Its not a job to take lightheartedly, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. I'd like to teach visual arts, but I'm not against english and music either. I also hope to teach at the elementary level.
