I don't mind if Jippos come and live at the bottom of my street, but if they start stealing from me I'll skin the fuckers, but I'd do that to anyone who tried to steal off of me.

We've got some pretty nice gypsies around here at the moment....they actually care about keeping the sites they've used clean etc! Then we have one massive jippo colony up in the woods, but they just keep themselves to themselves and help to keep the doggers away.

You start a thread protesting very mild racist humour and in the same breath spout overtly racist opinions based only on limited personal experience. I could equally cite personal experience with two traveller sites I've visited - one Roma and one Irish. Both owned or rented their land, both paid taxes, both were immaculately clean, both were very peaceful and very welcoming. As one of them explained to us (our intention being to research prejudice against travellers) if you live in a city and one person on your street is a criminal, that does not mean that everyone living on the whole street is a criminal. Now of course you will find some examples - highlighted most prominently in the media - of travellers who cause problems in communities, and I won't write off these experiences as fiction. However to draw generalisations about an entire people based on limited experiences is prejudiced and racist. Replace the word gypsie in your first post with ******, or Jew, or Paki, then read it back to yourself and see how it sounds....

Hey what you got against ugly people?! You can hardly say you've met every gypsie and they're ALL ugly.

Whats a jippo? unless you mean gypo?
    But gypo is racism...

Bite me for it...a few of us have had to put up with 7 or 8 pages of ******, Paki etc being over used...I'm sure the Gypsies will get over it.

Well if someone called me a Paki and meant it as an insult, I'd punch them in the face. If it was a friend and they meant it as a term of endearment, I wouldn't mind. It does all come down to context. But I can't see why you'd throw about racist terms in conversation and just expect them to get over it when it could obviously be taken as highly offensive in certain circumstances....

I have reserved opinions when it comes to Gypsies. I don't like talking about Gypsies. I believe that it is better to avoid them and then you will be fine. If you ignore them, they will ignore you. Bit like bears in the woods or bees.

they are not true gypsies, romanies, tinkers, travellers they give a bad name to those who are true
    Gypsy
From the vocabulary word for a Romani or traveller. The word derives from Egyptian, as in the Middle Ages the Romanis were believed to have come to Europe from Egypt; in fact they dispersed from an original home in north India. This name may sometimes be chosen by parents who hope that their daughter will exhibit a free spirit

    tinker

    • noun 1 a travelling mender of pots, kettles, etc. 2 Brit., chiefly derogatory a gypsy or other person living in a travelling community.

    traveller
noun 1 a person who is travelling or who often travels. 2 a gypsy. 3 (also New Age traveller) a person who holds New Age values and leads an itinerant and unconventional lifestyle.

Sorry. Not hungry. Plus im a vegetarian.
Doesnt mean its ok to do it to others. If someone slapped you should you go out and slap someone else? If someone insults you should you be able to go out and insult someone else who has nothing to do with the situation.
Its not fair. But yes i know "lifes not fair"...

    So much Rubbish Everywhere!

They Didn't Bother to Tidy Anything up...

Well that is my Experiance of them...

When I was a Baby...Some Gypsy Woman tried to Force my mother to Buy a Charm From Her...Which my mother Had No money on Her to Buy it...Not that She Wanted it Anyway...

I dont mind anyone as long as theyre respecting their environment, and are not hurting other living things

Therefore i wouldnt care if some travelling people moved onto the street, as long as they were respectful. I wouldnt mind them taking apples, because apples are ours to eat, thats what theyre there for. I often go out foraging for apples myself, or berries

If they littered and were disrespectful and hurting others and making the area untidy, then of course id have a problem, but id have that problem with anyone. Plenty of "ordinary" people litter and the like. And the idea that they live in caravans and travel about selling things or whatever really doesnt bother me. Sometimes im quite envious. Ive met nasty, scamming gypsies. But then ive met nasty, scamming human beings from many walks o life:p

I have been accrostred atleast twice. Once in the car park at Uxbridge College and the other in Crystal palace. On both occasions I was subjected to verbal abuse and violent threats which included the use of possible weapons. This came in the form of a car wheel nut cracker and a sawn off fence post.

The kids were worse than the parents. But in a way their behaviour simply mirrors our crumbling society. The parents were quite aggressive and the kids have learned to be assertive from as young as three.

I left as soon as I could. It was once they had left, did the destruction appear. Deep comet sized holes, massive rubbish piles and rocks and dead grass patches everywhere. Even included tyre tracks, about two metres deep!

mostly society have tolerated gypsie. Personally I have no sympathy for them. They want their own school and wish to be treated with respect. Yet, they act primitive and actually anti social to the very people who are the locals. When they leave, the locals have to pay the bill. The gypsies get away with the law and the police cannot do anything unless they get a written authorisation from the council itself.

The original good faring gypsies died a long time ago. Now we simply get people calling themselves Travellers or gypsies who have given Gypsy a bad name.

The modern gypsy have been known to kidnap dogs by urinating on their own shoes. Also kids have gone missing or have ended up being beaten up. Also local residents have been intimidated and have been subjected to routine burglaries including criminal damage and even murder. Yet, the gypsy gets away. Any action taken against a gypsy is seen as anti semetic or racist. I call it, bringing person to justice.

I hope the original gypsy with their beautiful caravans make a return and give Gypsy a good name.

You have some serious double-standards when it comes to this sort of thing. When the whole ****** thing came up...there were people throwing the word around as an insult and nothing was once said about it...everything was just swept under the carpet. Same with names like "Chinky", "Jap" and "Jappo" (which have been used many times within the UK forum and I can name names, if you wish) and all 3 can also been seen as being extremely offensive and racist when used.

If you're going to moderate such things, they should at least be consistent. Not just the ones that you don't agree with.

I'm not moderating anything here. I didn't stop you saying the word did I? I didn't delete your post, or edit out the word. I simply expressed my personal opinion on it, not as moderator, but as a poster on this forum, and my opinion is consistent. I am opposed to the use of racist language where it is used to offend or where it is used unthinkingly without regard to whether it will cause offense or not, and you'll find in previous threads which I've read and responded to regarding the word nigga/****** I've made exactly the same point....
